Joseph Baskerville, Jr. Obituary

A devoted husband and loving father, Joseph "Joey" E. Baskerville, Jr. of Petersburg VA, departed this life on September 28, 2024, at his residence. 


Joey was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. Baskerville, Sr. and Julia M. Baskerville; nephews, Steven and Gary Yeisley, and his cousins, Roger Shephard and Will Campbell.


He attended elementary school at Giles B. Cooke and Henry Williams Elementary. He graduated from Peabody High School in 1962. Following graduation, he joined the U. S. Air Force where he was a Military Police Officer. He took a brief leave from the Air Force to marry his high school sweetheart, Nadine on September 16, 1967. He was favorably discharged in April 1969, two children were conceived from this union. He was employed at Brown and Williamson until its closure and Defense General Supply Center for over 25 years.  He was an avid Redskins, The Washington Team, and the Commanders staying with them through the wins and losses and all the name changes. He loved constructing model airplanes and helicopters with a collection of over 100 models. His newest fascination and collection were Invicta watches. He was a quiet man with a wonderful presence. 


Joey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ella Nadine; a son, Joseph E. Baskerville, III; a daughter, Dawn Baskerville Howard; a sister, Valerie Yeisley (Richard); a grandson, Rene’ Howard, III (LaCeon); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 


Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Zion Baptist Church, 225 Byrne Street Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Delano Douglas, Interim Pastor and Rev. Dr. Andrew J. White, Sr., eulogist. The interment will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
