Joseph Clements

CLEMENTS, Mr. Joseph - age 83, of Flint, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at McLaren-Flint.  Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, August 2, 2107 with a 9:30 am family hour at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel 3021 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48507.  Rev. Malik Shabazz officiating. Calling hours are 11:00 am - 7:00 pm Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel.

Joseph Charles Clements (nickname Chuck to some, Joe to others and poppa to family), was born Charles Fielder (Smith) on October 26, 193 in Detroit, MI. and went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2017.  His birth parents were Evelyn Fielder and Paul Smith of Detroit, MI.  His adopted parents Joseph Clarence and Bessie Clements raised Joe in Flint, MI.

He graduated from Flint Central High School.  His early Christian teachings were in Catholic Faith.  Joe served as an Altar Boy at Christ the King Catholic Church under Father Dukette.  Joseph enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950, where he served his country honorably.  Joe later rededicated his life to the Lord, and became a member of New Jerusalem M.B.C. for more than 25 years.  He served on the Deacon Board and on the Security Ministry.  Joe was currently a member of True Gospel Baptist Church, under the pastorship of Rev. Malik Shabazz, where he served as a Deacon.

Joseph served as a Genesee County Sheriff's Deputy for over 15 years, leading him to open a very successful security and private detective agency.  He later retired from AC in Flint, MI., where he was supervisor.  He loved his family and dedicated his life to them.  He had a passion for music, playing guitar and piano.  He was also an avid fisherman.  Joe was married three times, wives were; Jackie, Margo and Marilyn, and children came from all three unions.  

Mr. Joseph Charles Clements leaves to cherish his memory: Marilyn Clements, who he so endearingly referred to as the love of his life.  Spending more than 45 years of their lives together, having their hearts and lives remaining connected to the end. Children; Mark Kevin (Rose) Clements of Beecher, Margaret Karen (Karl) Clements-Henderson of S. Carolina, Kara (James) Grubbs of Texas, Marcus Lanes of Flint, MI., Dean Mclemore of Pontiac, Gabrielle Clements of Grand Blanc, Brandi (Savoy) McBride of Lansing, Buffi Clements of Flint; 20 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, who kept him young and busy; siblings Jeanette Scott, Zelda Delora Draper, Jetawyn Stitt, Randye (K.D.) Bullock and Paula Smith Seraji; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends, recognizing special friends Shavory Rigsby, Tyra Hill, April Gray and Kevin Dinwiddie.

Mr. Joseph Charles Clements was preceded in death by: his biological and adopted parents, sisters Mary Jo Gray, Marjorie White and Eleanor Lowin, brother Dennis Lowin, and grandson Mark Kevin Clements.
