Joseph R. Peake, Jr. passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in Surf City, NC.
Joe was born August 8, 1944 in Point Pleasant, NJ, the first child of Joseph Peake, Sr. & Carolyn May (Denniston) Peake (both deceased).
After he finished school, he joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return to the states, he lived in Vermont where he married Linda Russell and welcomed his daughter, Darcy. He later moved to Virginia, spent time in Puerto Rico then Cairo, Egypt, settled for sometime in Florida as well as North Carolina.
Joe worked as a mechanical expert for several large international construction companies. He was a crane operator for many years and belonged to the International union of operating engineers out of Miami Florida. He was an outstanding athlete and an expert skier. Joe very much enjoyed traveling. He was an avid car guy who loved his corvettes and was also proud to have been a part of Libra racing while in Vt. However, boating was his passion, one he dedicated much of his life to.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Darcy Peake Putzier & her husband, Tim Putzier, of Colchester, VT; his partner, Vivien Riggle of Surf City, NC; two brothers, Richard Peake & his wife, Barbara, of Fairfield, CT, David Peake & wife, Jan, of Suffield, CT and sister, C.June Bernabucci & husband, Michael, of Wethersfield, CT. His beloved pets past and present, Shady, Hailey and Lacey. Additionally, he is survived by cousins, Robert & William Priestley of CT & MA, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.
Joe will be greatly missed by those who loved him. His free-wheeling spirit and zest for adventure will be remembered and celebrated by his loved ones.
A memorial service is being planned by the family of Joseph at a future date.

Having been born within two days of each other and sharing the life of a Navy junior and summers at Camp Po-ne-mah and then true membership in the Peake family, it will be very difficult to realize such an important part of my life will be seen no more. Although the times apart could be long the immediate closeness on getting together were wonderful and will be missed with difficulty. Love to all hhis wonderul familly and friends, Jan

Here are some pictures of Joe from some of our travels and Christmas in Fairfield. I will miss our long car trips and having Joe as my fellow chaperone when my folks decide to travel!
