I regret that I'm just finding out about this now, less than 24 hours after the funeral. I definitely would've gone. Joe was a good man and a good Christian. I really liked him and I'll miss him. Byron my heart goes out to you and your family.

I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Wise over the course of 20 years from various businesses in the Dekalb area....since I was 18 and working at his dry cleaner. Everyone once in awhile we would just chat about life and love and faith. I am sorry to see he's passed, however I take comfort knowing that he's at rest. Goodbye Joe, you were truly one of a kind

JOSEPH's Obituary

Joseph Wise Jr., 77, of DeKalb, died Friday, April 20, 2018, at Kishwaukee Hospital.

Joseph was born September 27, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Joseph Sr. and June (Powers) Wise. He married Millie Jean Hocutt on January 20, 1967, in Chicago.   

Joseph graduated from Lane Tech High School Class of 1957. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served with the 101st Airborne. Joseph was a member of Christ Community Church, and served on the City of DeKalb Human Relations Commission, and the DeKalb Christian School Board. He also coached AYSO soccer.  

He is survived by his wife, Millie; his sons, Stephen (Ami) Wise and Jason Byron Wise; grandsons, Evan (Brianna) Wise and Ryan Wise; sisters, Joyce Petrasko and Janette (Eric) Pollock; and several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Emma; and his parents.  

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Christ Community Church, 2350 Pride Avenue, DeKalb, with Pastor Greg Hodsden officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb, with full military honors by American Legion Post 66.  

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services, Saturday, April 28, at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Joseph Wise Jr. Memorial Fund, addressed to the Wise Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
