Joseph Wodynski Obituary

Joseph Peter Wodynski, age 74, passed away on December 13, 2025, surrounded by love. He was born on August 31, 1951, and was raised in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, where his roots, values, and work ethic were firmly planted.

Joe was the beloved son of the late Wanda (nee Zajac) and Casimir Wodynski. The youngest of four siblings: Casimir (Lillian), John (Barbara), and late MaryJane. He attended Pickard Elementary School and graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago, where he ran track, excelling as a sprinter.

At his high school graduation party, his fate changed when he met Nancy (Kolar) who he went on to marry at Holy Trinity Church on June 2, 1973.

Joe continued his education at Wilbur Wright College and went on to dedicate 35 years of service as a Supervising Electrician at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping establish Local Union 399 at the hospital—an achievement that reflected his leadership, determination, and deep commitment to advocating for others.

One day working a side job with a coworker brought him to Lemont. The small town felt like a perfect fit to raise his children, Joe and Natalie. In 1982, they packed up and moved from the city. Many in their family followed and established new traditions and backyard parties with friends and family. Friends and family were always his priority. He would never turn down a request for help, and he was a loyal friend to many. He loved roasting lamb at the annual Holy Trinity Croatian Picnic.

Joe loved the Chicago Bears, White Sox, Grateful Dead, telling stories, and making people laugh. Larger than life, Joe was the kind of person who would truly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His generosity, humor, and unwavering loyalty left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Nancy; his children Joseph (Missy) and Natalie (Jason); his cherished granddaughter Simone. His imprint will remain with his many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the extended Kolar, Kamis, and Zajac families, along with countless friends who became family over the years.

Joe will be remembered for his loyalty, his stories, his service, and, above all, his boundless love for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Markiewicz Funeral Home, 108 Illinois St., Lemont, IL.
