I first met Joshua when I was 18 years old. I can truly say that I have never seen him when he didn't have a smile on his face. May his memory be a blessing to ALL who knew him.

To Ashley Mendez and the entire Willis family,
When sorrows come, God's promises are shining rays of hope that break through cloudy skies brings us warmth and helps us cope. He promises to love us and to hear our every prayer. He promises to comfort and guide us and to always just be there. He also promises to give us strength to weather any storm and to be someone we can lean on who will keep us safe. God will never leave us alone when skies are gray. As long as we believe and...

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4
We remember and celebrate the life of our beloved Joshua Willis, Jr., who was born in Fluvanna, VA, on August 13, 1935, and was called to his eternal home on January 24, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joshua Willis, Sr. and Alice Willis; his siblings, Charles, John, and Mary Willis; his cherished wife, Ruth Willis; and their beloved children, Beverly Ogou and Anthony Thompson. His legacy of love, strength, and resilience lives on through his daughter, Angela Ivy (Rick), his granddaughters, Ashley Mendez, Jemini Ivy, and Essence Allen, along with a host of family and friends who were touched by his life.
Joshua was a brother, husband, father, and friend who wore many hats throughout his life. Although he didn’t receive a formal education from a university, he was deeply educated by the experiences of life itself and the lessons he learned through perseverance and adversity. Losing his mother at a young age and being separated from his siblings forced him to grow up quickly and become his own provider. Despite the many challenges he faced, Joshua lived a life full of grace, style, and strength, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
As we honor his memory, we take comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of his Lord and reunited with those who went before him. His spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Chapel of Oris P. Jones Funeral Establishment, 301 West Atlantic Street, South Hill, VA.
