This saddens me.our families grew up together so I have many fond memories of Joycie and her family. Her kindness towards others will be remembered. I pray her memories will bring comfort to her family. She will always be Joycie.God Blessings to all her loved ones.

Joyce's family, I have many fond memories of Joyce. We only lived a block away from each other growing up. She will always be Joycee to me. A sweet and kind gal. My only regret is I didn't stay in touch through the years. My deepest condolences to you all.

Joyce Rebecca's Obituary

Joyce Rebecca Larson, 68, of Elizabeth City, NC, formerly of Fessenden, ND, entered the loving arms of her Lord on September 26, 2025, in Virginia Beach, VA, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.  A small service will be held at Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden followed by the burial at Hillside Cemetery at a date yet to be determined.

Born on February 23, 1957, Joyce was the beloved daughter of Robert and Faye (Severson) Neumiller (later Lenz). She grew up in Fessenden surrounded by the love and laughter of her six siblings and many cousins. From an early age, Joyce had a tender heart—always caring for animals, swimming at the local pool, and enjoying the simple joys of the outdoors.

A graduate of Fessenden High School’s Class of 1975, Joyce began a long and respected career in public service. She worked as the Deputy Treasurer of Wells County before being elected Wells County Treasurer, a position she held with dedication and integrity until her retirement a few years ago. Her kindness, patience, and commitment to her community were evident to all who knew her.

In December of 1978, Joyce married David Larson in Heimdal, ND. Together they welcomed their greatest blessing, their son Ryan, in 1983. Though Joyce and David later went their separate ways, her devotion to Ryan remained unwavering throughout her life.

Joyce’s heart overflowed with love for children and animals. She delighted in visits from her grandsons, enjoyed seeing children playing in the neighborhood, and never missed an opportunity to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. Over the years, her loyal dogs—Kirby, Buster, Sadie, and Bella—brought her comfort, companionship, and joy.

Family meant everything to Joyce. She cherished Sunday nights at her mother Faye’s house, holiday gatherings, and quiet walks around the Wells County Fairgrounds, the football field, and along the familiar section lines of her hometown.

During her courageous journey with cancer, Joyce was blessed with remarkable support from those she loved. Her dear friend Laurel Wentz, her sister and brother-in-law Debbie and Brad Mitzel, and her niece Lisa Duchene stood by her side with unwavering love and care, offering strength and comfort when it was needed most. They were all true angels to Joyce.

Above all, Joyce’s faith was her guiding light. She found peace and strength in prayer, scripture, and music, traveling life’s often difficult road with grace, kindness, and a heart full of love.

Joyce is survived by her son, Ryan (Bobbie) Larson of Steele, ND; her treasured grandchildren, Grady, Jaiden, and Ryder; her sisters Debra (Brad) Mitzel of North Carolina and Cindy (Roland) Colbert of Arizona; her brothers Steve Neumiller of Harvey, ND, and Brian (Missy) Neumiller of Florida; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Robert and Faye; her stepfather, Harvey Lenz; her brother Timothy; and her sister Vicki.

Joyce’s life was a beautiful example of love, faith, and resilience. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
