Julia Marie Valliant, 84, of Hampton, VA, went home to be with her Lord on August 8, 2024. Julia was born to Melvin Levi White and Addie Marie White on December 12, 1939 in Siloam (near Salisbury), Maryland.
Julia was a faithful Army wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and her husband, LTC Charles M. Valliant, US Army retired, were married November 24, 1961. They lived on Fort Monroe and in Hampton for the past 44 years.
She is survived by her husband; her children, Darlene M. Valliant and wife Barbara of New Caney, TX; Mark K. Valliant and wife Debbie of Daytona Beach, FL; and Kevin C. Valliant of Hampton; her grandchildren, Kyle Valliant and wife Porsha of Newport News, VA, Selina Valliant and Kole Valliant of Hampton; and her very special great-grandson, Grayson Kane Valliant, the son of Kyle and Porsha.
She is also survived by her sister, Trudy Arbuckle and husband Jon of Grenola, KS; and brother-in-law, John “Skip” Valliant of Selbyville, Delaware.
Julia loved her Lord and was a member of several Christ focused study groups over her lifetime. She knew how to praise her Lord and to be a witness for Him and His blessings.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Chapel of the Centurion, Ft. Monroe. The family will receive friends Monday from 4-6 pm at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Colonel Valliant, I just read of your wife’s passing and want to extend my sympathy. She and I probably met at some point during a function at Fort Monroe. To refresh your memory, I worked in the Chief of Staff’s office and was the Commanding General’s secretary. In sympathy, Nannie Diggs
