Karen Kelley Mears

1951 - 2026

Karen Kelley Mears of Scott Township, PA passed away on February 26, 2026, at the age of 74. She was the daughter of the late Hubert and Estelle Irish Kelley. She is survived by her husband Arthur Mears, sisters Estelle, Martha and Mary and brothersKevin and Hugh. Accordingly, this includes many nieces and nephews. 

She enjoyed dancing and attended classes at the Jimmy Sutton dance studio in Scranton, where Alexi Romanov instructed her in ballet. She belonged to many dance groups while in college. Karen graduated with a degree from Pennsylvania State University in Journalism. She wrote for the Scranton Times-Tribune for many years and was very active in Junior Achievement and the Scranton Philharmonic, writing grants to fund
their many projects and performances. 

Her horses, Dark Hostess and Oliver, together with their dogs, brought her some of the greatest joy in life.
