Kathryn "Kathy" Ann Sweezy née Schmidt
August 24, 1963 - June 1, 2024
Kathryn Ann Sweezy, affectionately known as Kathy, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 1, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 60. Born on August 24, 1963, Kathy was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
Kathy is survived by her loving family: her daughters, Shannon(Chris Champion) and Eryn Sweezy; her brother, Raymond Schmidt (Kit née Mclennon); her mother, Joann Schmidt; her grandson, Cayden Champion; her niece, Lauren Schmidt; and her nephew, Ryan Schmidt (Laurie née Johnson). She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Schmidt.
Kathy dedicated over 40 years of her life to nursing, specializing in memory care. Her passion and love for her residents and the people she worked with were evident in her long and impactful career in long-term care.
A devoted Chicago Cubs fan, Kathy was thrilled to witness their historic World Series win in 2016. Her favorite spot at Wrigley Field was overlooking Gallagher Way, where she could often be found enjoying a good beer. In her leisure time, she loved sitting outside and trying her luck at the slot machines.
Kathy was enthusiastic about celebrating life's special moments. She took great joy in going all out with decorations and gifts, making every occasion memorable for those around her.
A funeral service to honor Kathy's life will be held at Petersons Funeral Home on June 11, 2024.
Kathy will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved her. Her spirit will live on in the memories shared and the lives she touched.

Kathy was an important member of my childhood circle of friends, growing up together in Elmwood Park. Hard to believe she's gone, but she will always be remembered!

We didn’t get a chance to hang out like we wanted due to illnesses and timing but Kathy was one of a kind. She was genuine and always had a smile for us whenever we’d get together. Her love for Cayden was insurmountable and we hope to always remind him how much she loved him.

Nothing was better than sharing a laugh with Kathryn. She was such a kind lady who truly loved her family, especially her grandson. Getting to know her in the short period that we met was truly an honor, and will be memories I’ll always cherish. Sending my love and thoughts.
