Kathy Lynne Schreiber

1960 - 2026

Kathy Lynne Schreiber (Baade), 65, of North Platte, NE, passed away on February 6, 2026.

She was born in Omaha, NE on August 11, 1960. Her mother, Bonnie Lou Jensen, had traveled by train to deliver Kathy and her twin sister, as North Platte could not safely care for them. She grew up in North Platte with her siblings and loving parents. She attended Jefferson Elementary and Adams Junior High. She loved art and was an accomplishment dancer on the Pacers team at North Platte High School, from which she graduated in 1978.

Following high school, Kathy studied entomology at Mid Plains Community College. After college, Kathy began a successful career working at the Union Pacific Railroad.  As an office clerk, working out of a boxcar, she was involved in helping build the rail line from the mines in Gillette, Wyoming to bring coal to power plants in the Midwest States.  She was later promoted to a management position, and helped educate employees on computer systems.  She traveled to and lived in many places, including Omaha, NE and St. Louis, MO.

In 1991, Kathy married her now former husband Rick, and a few years later in 1995, they welcomed their daughter Sophie, who brought Kathy great joy. She was especially proud of Sophie’s educational accomplishments and her career as a nurse.

As a deeply creative person, she enjoyed painting, gardening, and traveling. Above all, Kathy loved people. One of her greatest joys was catching up with old friends and making new ones. Others were drawn to her great sense of humor, generous heart, and sociable personality.

Kathy is predeceased by her parents, Bonnie and Darrell Baade; her grandparents, Henry Jensen and Shirley Lunkwitz, and Art Jones and Marge Baade; and her aunts and uncles, Beverly Saathoff, Clifford Baade, and Dale and Lucy Gammell and Darlene and Don Miller.

She is survived by her daughter Sophie (Colby) Tinajera of Colorado Springs, CO; sister Kim (Bob) Redmon of Elizabeth, CO; brother Kevin Baade of North Platte, NE; sister Kristy (Ron) Lage of Arthur, NE; brother Kraig (Michelle) Baade of Denver, CO; Uncle Raymond (Judy) Lunkwitz of Travelling, RV; former husband Rick Schreiber of Omaha, NE; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

A book signing for Kathy will be on Friday, February 20, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.  A Celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, North Platte, Nebraska at 11:00 AM CST.
