Gwendolyn Kay Laurens, age 75, has stepped into the next phase of her journey. Kay ended her lengthy battle with cancer on January 13, 2024, at Otterbein in Middletown, Ohio.
Born in New Orleans in 1948 to Jeanette and Bob Masters, she graduated from Twin Valley South High School in 1966 and married John Paul Laurens in 1969 from Middletown, Ohio. That is where she made her family and home over the years.
Kay enjoyed being in her garden, as she was a floral designer for Flowers by Roger in Middletown for 25 years. She went on to work for and retire from Ameritas Life Insurance Company in 2014.
Kay was a lover of art, music, and a sunset chaser. She loved to travel and socialize at wine parties. She saw beauty in watching nature, especially birds of all kinds, a cat lover, tequila drinker and hot air balloon enthusiast.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Paul Laurens.
Kay is survived by her children, Kelley (Amine) Bitar of Lebanon and Jesse (Amanda) Laurens of Hamilton. Grandchildren, Jacob, Allison, and Quinn. She is also survived by her brother, Pat (Debbie) Masters of Dayton and sister-in-law, Paula (Ron) Walters of Franklin, numerous cousins, much beloved nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of lifelong friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19th from 10:00-12noon with a celebration of life service at 12noon all at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040. Refreshments will be provided by the family following the service at the funeral home.
A private interment will take place at Sugar Grove Cemetery in West Alexandria, Ohio.

I am so sorry for your loss. Kay was an amazing lady. I enjoyed working with her as a floral designer. She was always quick to share new things whether it was a new recipe or some good music. Everytime I hear the Uppity Blues Women I think of her. She will truly be missed.

Sending my deepest condolences to Kelley and Jeese and Kay's family. I am glad I had the pleasure of taking care of Kay through her journey of life because she has always brighten my day with her smile, her love, her jokes and our heart felt love for the Bengals (Burrow).
