Kenneth E. "Smiley" Burnett, Jr. Obituary

Kenneth E. “Smiley” Burnett, Jr., 71, of Jackson Twp, PA passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, March 13, 2020. He was born on July 12, 1948 in Binghamton, NY to the late Kenneth E. and Lena (Terboss)Burnett.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Bonny J. Burnett; 5 children, Kenneth (Pam Hamzik) Burnett of Johnson City, NY, Todd (Lois Ann) Burnett of Windsor, NY, Kevin Davies of New Milford, PA, Angela (James) Warner of Factoryville, PA and Mindy (Michael) Drazba of Scranton, PA; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Tina (Michael Szafranovicz) Roettenbacher, Kristy (John) Benscoter, Amy (Joe Kimmel) Terboss Travis, and Marci Horne; 3 brothers, James (Brenda) Burnett, Timothy (Jackie Halesky) Burnett, and Robert (Norine) Burnett; aunts, Geraldine Decker and Anita Dribnack, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Aaron.

Smiley worked locally in the meat department at Schneider’s market in Kirkwood, NY. He was well known for his many stories and his “funny” sense of humor. The outdoors were his passion whether it be hunting, fishing, camping or even just target shooting. He was always up for a day outdoors. He enjoyed spending evenings relaxing at home with his wife and weekends in the woods hunting for deer, ducks, or whatever happened to be in season. Smiley enjoyed spending time with his family & friends. He especially enjoyed the time he had with his children and grandchildren. Smiley was an amazing man, a wonderful brother, a great father, a beloved husband and one of the best grandparents you could ever ask for. He will be missed beyond words and has left many broken hearts behind that will never fully heal.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 9:30-11am at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Lake View Cemetery.

Smiley was my brother-in-law for a while. We lived in the same house for a bit when he was finishing high school. We hunted and fished together. We fished a stream called Little Egypt. The stream was not stocked, and all brookies. He caught 8, I caught 1. He said I wasn't thinking right. He said the botton of the stream was covered with fish waiting to get on my hook. Attitude is everything.
