Kimberly Lawes Obituary

Kimberly Elizabeth Bolan Lawes, lovingly known to most as Kim, was born on July 8, 1970, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. A lifelong resident of Brick, New Jersey, Kim passed away on January 31, 2026, at the age of 55.

Kim was predeceased by her father, John Bolan, and her mother, Janet Sontgerath Bolan. She is survived by her devoted husband, Eric Lawes; her beloved children, Eric Lawes Jr. and Alexander Lawes; her cherished sister, Dana Abline; and her niece, Bianca Abline. Kim was truly one of the kindest souls you could ever meet. Whether it was a small gesture at work to brighten someone’s day or going out of her way to support family and friends, her compassion knew no limits. She lived her life with an open heart and a genuine desire to help others—whether they were strangers or loved ones.

She found joy in simple, meaningful moments: searching for sea glass along the beach, spending time outdoors during the warmer months, and soaking in the beauty of everyday life. Above all else, Kim was the definition of a devoted mother. She always put her family first and treasured time spent together, cheering her children on at sporting events and ceremonies, and always making it to every game possible, never once viewing it as a sacrifice. With her family, she loved attending baseball games, taking walks on the boardwalk, and enjoying quiet nights filled with board games and movies. She was also a loving and attentive mother to her cats, whom she adored and cared for deeply.

Kim began her career at Agency Rent-A-Car and later worked for Avis and Budget before eventually joining the Human Resources team at Target, where she continued to care for and support others in her own special way. Her coworkers knew her as a steady presence, a shoulder to lean on, and someone they could always turn to during moments of stress or uncertainty.

In Kim’s home, the word “hate” was not allowed. That belief reflected how she viewed the world—with kindness, understanding, and a desire to lead with love. One of her favorite sayings was, “It’s never goodbye, it’s see you later,” a sentiment that perfectly captures her enduring spirit.

Visitation will be Saturday February 7th from 12:00pm-3:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Hwy.88., Brick.

I'm at a loss for words. Kim, no matter who walked through that door, you were always smiles and cheer. If anyone was in a bad day, the aura you gave off was guaranteed to make them feel a little bit better. If I had to call, I always prayed you'd be the one to pick up because you knew how to make everything right. To say that you will be greatly missed in this world is an understatement.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kim from renting cars at Avis-Budget when my kids were going to college. From 2012-2019 we always used Avis because of Kim. Here is a story I want to share that sums up Kim's kindness. One time when I was returning a rental and the bill was more than I expected. Not a fault of Kim, just the look of money is tight and oh boy how am I going to pay for this? Kim sensed that concern and with her smile said "I think we have a discount program" or something like that. The bottom line is Kim showed how she cared about people.

Kimmi!!!!
A wonderful heart. Motherhood for you was love and pure love. Always an empathetic attentive listener. Your energy and your laughter, (specially after sweets ;) ). Your matching sing alongs. Your lightness and ability to match our energy. Your way of explaining me things, that although serious, just cause the giggles in me, because you didn’t try, but in a good way you were funny and that made the atmosphere genuinely lightened. You were loved, and will forever have a place in my and many hearts. Kimmi, till next time, Keni!

Kim, I’m so lost for words. Two words I can think of are thank you. Thank you for being the support I needed. Thank you for checking on me even when you weren’t on the clock. As I sit here, completing my past due trainings. I will remember the good times we shared and even the bad. I can literally hear you saying right now nobody cries by themselves when you’re around.

I knew Kim when she worked at Pj's for the rental cars. I was a letter carrier in Spring Lake and delivered mail there. Kim was always so cheerful when I went in. I am so sad to hear of her passing. I know how much she loved her family. Praying for you and your family at this difficult time.
