Kurt Schember Obituary

On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Kurt Douglas Schember, age 59, of Bad Axe entered into heaven and was reunited with family and friends who went before him, and left behind many family and friends that came for a final good-bye at McLaren hospital in Flint. Those that came to show their love and support to him in his final moments was a loving experience that his wife and son will forever cherish.


Kurt was born on August 13th,1966 in Bad Axe, son of Dale and Marilyn (Brakenberry)


Schember. He graduated from Laker High School in 1985 and went on to marry his best friend Lisa Drabek on August 15, 1987. They spent 38 years together raising their son and making many memories.


Kurt was employed at Thumb Tool and Engineering for over 37 years.


He loved spending time with his son, Cody, was a dedicated U of M fan, Go Blue! And


spent many years coaching football for Bad Axe Schools and Bad Axe Little League. He


also enjoyed gardening, canning and snuggling with his fur babies (Jackson, Beau and


BlackJack)


Those left behind will miss him forever.


Kurt is survived by his wife, Lisa, and son Cody (Zoey) of Grand Rapids, his brother, Mark (Sharon) Schember of Elkton; his mother in-law Judy Drabek of Bad Axe; brother-in-law Pete Drabek (Heather) of Bad Axe; sisters-in-law Heidi Lackie (Ted) of Waterford, Missy Booms (Aaron) of Denver,Iowa and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Kurt was preceded in death by his father Dale W. Schember and mother Marilyn


Smithers of Elkton; his brother Kevin Schember; sister Melody Harmon; infant sister Dawn Schember; maternal grandparents Douglas and Minnie Brakenberry; paternal grandparents Walter and Eleanor Schember and father-in-law Bruce Drabek.


The funeral service for Kurt Schember will be on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Scott McDermand II officiating.


Friends and family of Kurt Schember may call for visitation from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at MacAlpine Funeral Home on Monday, March 30th and also on Tuesday at the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. 


Memorials can be made to the family or Thumb Animal Shelter.
