John Gable, Webster Groves, MO, November 10, 2010Much loved husband of Jacqueline (nee Cannon) Gable; father of Linda (Bob) Watson, Decorah, IA; Deborah (Gary) Stratman, Boulder, CO; Cynthia (Scott) Blasor, Mineral Wells, TX, and John (Kristin) Gable, Indianapolis, IN; grandfather of Scott and Mark Watson, Jacob and Nathan Stratman, Evan Blasor, Timmothy Gable and Jennifer (Gable) Garoutte; and great grandfather of seven.Born November 4, 1924 in Marshalltown, Iowa, John was a graduate of Webster Groves High School (1942) and Duke University (1947). He was a LT. JG in the US Navy during World War II. After a career in banking he retired as Sr. Vice President of Boatmen's National Bank, now Bank of America, in 1992.John was a long time member and elder of Webster Groves Presbyterian Church. He taught Sunday School for 51 years and helped organize South Webster Presbyterian Church. He served the community of Webster Groves as Chairman of the Police and Fireman Board for 24 years, the Parks and Recreation Board, which created two new city parks, as well as two school tax levies. Gable was recognized as the Webster Groves Citizen of the Year in 1972 and was elected to the Webster Groves High School Hall of Fame in 2006.John served 12 years as the chairman of Deaconess Hospital System and was treasurer of the St. Louis Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for 26 years. He served as Missouri Chairman and President of the St. Louis Area chapter of the American Cancer Society, as well as on the National Board, and with his wife, received the Society's highest volunteer award.Services: A memorial visitation from 2 p.m. in the sanctuary until time of service at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow at Webster Groves Presbyterian Church, 45 W.
