Lana McDonald Obituary

Lana Diane McDonald “Diana”, age 81, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at 1:55 p.m. EST.

Diana was born on November 19, 1944, in Langdale, Alabama, the daughter of the late Malcolm Couey and the late Edith Goodwin Couey. She and Bruce McDonald were married in January of 1962. After a period of separation following their divorce in 1969, they found their way back to one another and were remarried in 1973 in Tucson, Arizona. Together, Diana and Bruce shared 60 years of marriage.

In 1979, Diana and Bruce moved to Camden County, where they raised their family and spent many years together. In 2021, they relocated to Blairsville, Georgia, to be closer to family as they entered later stages of life.

Diana was a deeply devout disciple and follower of Jesus Christ, placing her faith at the forefront of everything she did. Her faith shaped her values, guided her decisions, and remained central throughout her life. For approximately 30 years, Mrs. McDonald was a faithful member of Agape Christian Fellowship Church in St. Marys, Georgia. Her family takes comfort knowing she is now at peace in Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, God our Father, and the Holy Spirit.

She was known for her outspoken nature, strong convictions, and willingness to speak her mind. Diana often said that the biggest things come in the smallest packages, a reflection of both her personality and her faith. She was a   loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Bruce McDonald, of Blairsville; her children, Steven McDonald, Aimee McDonald, and Nick McDonald (wife Marcie McDonald); her sister, Janet Couey; her grandchildren, Scott McDonald (wife Kristin McDonald), Payton Lovell (step-grandson), Anna Travers (step-granddaughter), Lydia Wagner (step-granddaughter), and Harrison McDonald; and her great-granddaughters, Olivia McDonald, Piper McDonald, and Evelyn McDonald.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Anita Couey.

The family wishes to acknowledge her daughter-in-law, Marcie, together with the caregivers and hospice staff, for bearing the demands of care and ensuring Diana was regularly attended to during her final months.

Diana will be remembered for her unwavering faith, devotion to family, and the strength of her voice and convictions.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Derrick Hartley, at: Mountain View Funeral Home 78 A Butternut Crossing
Blairsville, GA 30512

Special music will be presented by Cindy Whitmore. Flowers are accepted; however, the family requests that donations may be made to Skylark (formerly CareNet, where Diana served as Director), 1891 GA Hwy 40 East, Suite 1107, Kingsland, GA 31548, or by calling (912) 729-8842, in Mrs. McDonald’s memory.

I am so deeply honored that God allowed me to share 22 years of life knowing my sister in Christ and dear friend, Diana. She and I shared many hours of conversation regarding our enthusiasm in anticipation of Heaven and Eternity, and I never left her company feeling anything less than inspired. She loved her Bruce, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her Marcie, with fervor and diligence, second only to her love for Jesus. My heart prays that your beautiful memories of Diana will sustain you going forward, bringing you comfort and peace. Sending my love and heartfelt sympathy to all of you.

Diane and I are cousins who grew up with mothers who were extremely close. I have fond childhood memories because of the bond that our mothers shared. When Aunt Edie was ill and living with Diane, I had the honor of taking my mother to visit her sister. It was during this time that I was blessed to reconnect and reminisce with Diane. Please know that I will have your loving family in my prayers during these incredibly difficult days.
With love, Linda
