Rev. Larry Wayne Odle, 67, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota surrendered his life to God at 4:20 A.M., Thursday, Nov. 22nd, 2018 from sudden heart failure in Van Meter, Iowa.
Larry was born Dec. 29, 1950 in Belle Fourche, SD. He graduated from Belle Fourche High School and continued his education at Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. He majored in Sociology, Psychology, History and graduated Summa cum Laude while earning his Bachelor’s Degree. He met his beautiful bride Kay at Northern State, got married and moved to St. Paul, MN. He attended Bethel Theological Seminary there, graduating Magna cum Laude with a Master of Divinity Degree.
Larry served the Lord his entire life.
Right after college he became the Christian Education Director at Faith Baptist Church in Coon Rapids, MN. Later he was promoted to Senior Pastor at that same church. For the next 28 years he served as the Senior Pastor in four churches in Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota. In 2003 Larry became the Executive Minister for the Converge Heartland Baptist District that oversaw churches in a five-state region. He led 6 mission trips to Ukraine, and was on the Board of Overseers for Odessa Theological Seminary there. After retiring he continued to preach at churches and serve as an interim pastor.
Larry loved God and adored his wife. He enjoyed yard work, being with his family, and reading, especially anything to do with history, Abraham Lincoln, and the Civil War. Larry was such an encouragement to me when I first joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ. Whenever I went home to visit my parents, I often attended Calvary Baptist Church in Montevideo, Minnesota. Larry was always so glad to see me, and he was so thankful for the work we were doing on campus. His smile, his laugh, his love for God, and his love of life were contagious, and I've thought of and talked about him often over the years, even though I haven't seen him for decades. God's blessings to Kay and the entire Odle family.

Larry was such a good and true friend! Our church and BYF times were very special as we grew up together in the church. We shared many, many hours of friendship over our Jr.High, High school, and college years together. I will never forget all the times we stood around the piano after Wednesday night BYF... singing hymns and harmonizing "just for fun". Larry was always full of fun and laughter... and he loved the Lord! I will miss my friend!

We were pastors in two western Minnesota churches and we shared many times of fellowship and prayer. Larry had a caring heart and demonstrated the love of Christ to others. Kay, we pray for you and for your family. May you know the comfort of our Lord at this time.

Our paths crossed in both Minnesota and South Dakota. My life was enriched by the relationship that developed through ministry connections. Was so pleased when he was selected to serve as Executive Minister. He was the right man for that season. Heard of his homegoing while sharing Thanksgiving dinner with longtime Big Springs friends. Great to hear their stories of what he meant to them during his interim there. Gwyn and I are praying for you, Kay and for your family. Grace, peace and comfort.

I got to know Larry while we were both ministering in Iowa and was delighted when God called him to serve a church in the Heartland Baptist District. It was my privilege to minister closely with Larry for over a decade. He was an outstanding pastor whom I remember for his devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ, his love for people, his engaging personality, and his gift of teaching/preaching. I am so sorry you have to walk through this valley, Kay. Be assured that we are praying for you and your family.

Larry and I attended school together. During high school we spent hours together, especially through choral activities. I appreciated his support and friendship as we transitioned to Northern State College where Larry, Kayla Boucher and I loved our time with the Salem family. My thoughts are with Kay and family.

Larry married my cousin Kay and over the years we shared many great times together. Larry was a kind and caring man and always fun to be with. He had a wonderful self-deprecating sense of humor. He was good to all who knew him but especially Aunt Bonnie. He will be missed by all of us. My deep sympathy to Kay and her family. Dick Gregg

My adopted brother...I loved Larry as a brother. He is greatly missed. I will always remember his giggles, his laugh followed by Oh, please.... Oh Larry, you are forever in our hearts. You were a magnificent leader, pastor, friend and brother. Now you are dancing and singing in heaven. No more pain. No more tears. Always loved.

I grew up two doors down from Larry. He was a childhood friend. My older brothers and I along with the other Odle kids(kissing cousings who lived next door to Merle and next door to us). The friendship as kids still sticks with me today. I always wondered what happened to our neighborhood kids. So sorry to hear of Larry's passing. What a wonderful friend.
