Laurie Stephan Good began her new “journey” on November 11, 2025, surrounded by her family. Laurie was a person whose compassion touched many. Born in Colombus, Ohio on June 28, 1956, she always knew she wanted a life caring for others. She became a nurse in 1978 at the University of Cincinnati and went on to become a nurse practitioner specializing in pediatrics in 1983 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In the first part of career, she worked at the Teen Pregnancy Service in Milwaukee, the Oconomowoc School District, and the Urgent Care department at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. In 2004, her lifelong love of learning led her to complete a second Master’s Degree in Education at Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts, specializing in early childhood risk and prevention. Following this, she came back to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee, spending the next 20 years as a nurse practitioner in palliative care, particularly supporting children with cancer and their families. Here she touched so many lives with her empathy and commitment to providing the best possible support to people on their end of life journeys. Laurie also loved animals; they always seemed to pick up on her gentleness and kindness. She was a keen horse rider and greatly appreciated the horses in her life as well as her ‘barn family’ at Barry Ridge Equestrian Centre in Germantown. Her own home was always filled with a rescue dog or cat (or both!). She also loved wildlife, travel, and wine -- often combining all three with trips around the US and Europe. At home, she always had a garden project on the go, and plenty of birdfeeders to fill.Family was incredibly important to Laurie, and she loved spending time with all of them. Laurie leaves behind her devoted husband of 16 years, John Humphrey; her beloved children, Stephanie (Rohan) and Christopher, from her previous marriage to Robert Good; her caring stepchildren, Steve (Emily) and Michael (Linda); and her adored granddaughter, Millie.It was Laurie’s wish not to have a formal funeral. Her family will hold a celebration of life for her in the coming weeks.
