Lawrence M. “Larry” Ryan passed away March 15, 2026. He was born June 4, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to William and Mary Bolger Ryan. He spent a good portion of his life until 8 years old on his father’s ranch in Cajeme, Mexico, which later became the city of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. His father was an early pioneer of farming wheat and rice until the Mexican government confiscated all foreign owned property. Larry then moved with his parents, sisters Mary Ellen “Honey” Ryan O’Hara, Patricia “Pat” Ryan Liska, and brother William “Bill” Ryan to OakPark, Ill. He graduated from Loyola University in Chicago, where he met Frances “Cupcake” Cutler. They married and purchased a home in Melrose Park, Ill., where they raised their five sons, Lawrence “Larry,” John “Jake,” Timothy “Tinx", Peter “Peps,” and Daniel “Danny” Ryan, later moving to a home in River Forest, Ill. Larry was in the wholesale women’s apparel business with offices and showrooms first at the Merchandise Mart and later in the Chicago Apparel Center. Larry and his wife Fran were active at the Oak Park Tennis Club and Oak Brook Tennis Club for many years and in the 1980s had a condominium at the Naples Bath and Tennis Club until Fran was afflicted with a brain tumor. After his wife’s death, Larry continued coming to Naples, eventually purchasing in Pelican Bay andma king Florida his domicile. In 1999, he married his long-time neighbor from River Forest, the widow Nancy “E.T.C.” Murphy Carroll, who blessed him with four children he watched growing up as neighbors: John “Jay,” Tim, Chrissy “I.G.I.,” and Murphy Carroll, their spouses, and grandchildren Johnnie “I Doubt It,” Matthew, Colin “3-point,” “Touchdown Charlie,” “Pinky,” “Majesty,” “Hat Trick” and “Spike” Carroll. Larry’s children blessed him with grandchildren Peter “Pete,” Kelly “Kell Bell,” Jack, Kate, Brianna “Bree,” Connor, Doug, Mia, Mara, Cade and Holly, along with great grandchildren Charlotte “Charlie Pebbles,” Paige “Paigey,” Pearson “Bopples,” Joan “Joanie” and Simone “Ya-Ya,” all of whom called him “Grampy” or “Pops,” which he always loved to hear. In lieu of flowers, Larry requests that you send a nice note to his wife Nancy so she can make a remembrance album. Thank you and God Bless You.
