Lawrence “Jinx” Lindsay, 79, of Parkland, FL passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends on January 12, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jinx was a man of strength, loyalty and quiet courage. He fought many battles in his life, and his final one with cancer was met with the same determination and grace that defined who he was. Jinx proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War obtaining the rank of Spec 5. He was also a recipient of the prestigious Purple Heart.
A devoted father, Jinx led by example. He showed love not only through words, but through presence, protection, and sacrifice. He was not only a father, but also their friend. As a father, he was patient and proud, always encouraging us to be ourselves and to do our best. His guidance continues to shape who we are, and his love will remain with us for the rest of our lives. As a grandfather, his pride was unmistakable and his love was unconditional, warm, and lasting. He loved attending all the grandchildren’s many sporting events. Sometimes, even enjoying coaching and refereeing from the sidelines. To his beloved wife of 55 years, he was a husband and partner in every sense, standing side by side through life’s journeys. From the moment they met, Jinx brought warmth, strength, and laughter into her life. He was a man of kindness, integrity, humor, faith, devotion, and he lived those values every day not loudly, but consistently. Being married to him meant being supported, understood, and deeply loved.
Lawrence was also a true friend, the kind of person you could count on without questions. His loyalty ran deep, his humor was memorable, and his presence left a mark on everyone who knew him. He was always the life of the party. His one of a kind dance moves always kept us entertained.
Though his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, his legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the memories that will be held forever. Lawrence “Jinx” Lindsay will be remembered not only for how he fought, but for how deeply he loved and how fully he lived.
Proceeded in passing by parents, Lawrence E. Lindsay, Jr. and Loretta Fahey Lindsay; and his sister, Catherine Lindsay Nuesser.
Survived by his wife, Sherry Lindsay; his daughter, Dawn Lindsay (Jose) Reyes; son, Brian (Allison Chisari) Lindsay. Also, left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Preston, Peyton, Parker, Marcus, and Ava; his sister, Patricia Lindsay-Ruez; brother, Eugene (Peg) Lindsay; brother-in-law, Norman Hoskins; and several nieces and nephews.
He will always be with us, in our stories, our laughter and our hearts.
Fly high Papa Jinx!

A thought I think is very apropos about Jinx and his effect on the people he loved and cared for:
'Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile, and leave us with a deeper understanding of what is important. They leave their footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same.... by Flavia Weedn
Though the loss of Jinx has saddened our hearts, the many strengths and love he shared with all of us imbues us with the courage to remember the joys and happiness we all experienced by knowing and loving him.

I remember the first time I met Jinx and Sherry. It was Dawn’s High school prom in 1989. Here I was 7 years older than Dawn and they were still friendly and allowed me to hang out with them and Dawn. They have embraced me, made me feel like family, invited me to events. They were part of every major event in my life, weddings, birthdays, my dad’s funeral. In fact, after my dad passed I started calling Jinx Pops and he was ok with that. I felt like he was very protective of his family and extended that protection to me. Even my wife Bonnie felt like Jinx and his family welcomed her and celebrated our wedding. I always wanted to do anything I could for him as I felt he gave so much of himself to me. He’s definitely been a father figure to me and many others. Going to miss his laugh, his dance moves and him telling me not to fish for his snakeheads. I’m gonna miss you Pops.

There’s family and there’s friends, Jinx and the whole Lindsay family treated their friends like family. I can’t think of Jinx and not picture his wonderful warm smile. I feel blessed and very lucky to have known him, to have shared so many happy celebrations with the Lindsay family throughout the years. Their hospitality and parties are legendary. Rick considered Jinx his best friend. I expect they’re having a great reunion in Heaven. RIP Jinx, you will be missed and remembered with love.

What a beautifully written obituary with family photos (his friends were family) to show the blessings of love that were a part of Jinx's life. As a childhood friend of his daughter Dawn, I witnessed the comfort, protection, support and love he exuded. When Dawn and Brian were young, Jinx made sure they learned to change their own tires on the car, he played pool with them and their friends, he lifted weights with Brian and his friends and did aerobics with Sherry, Dawn and myself. When bass music was in, he tinted Dawn's car with bass lines and drove down the street listening to Two Live Crew. He and Sherry threw great parties with lots of dancing and laughter which marked some of my fondest memories. When cancer came at him, he fought as hard and as long as he could to continue to be here with his family. I have faith that he continues to be here with them from the other side, continuing to comfort, protect, support and love them. And I know he wouldn't miss any of the fun still to come. With love and friendship, Jackie

He’s been a great neighbor to have for 37 years. I especially enjoyed seeing Jinx on the corner campaigning for Trump! And I am glad to have been able to join him! Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Jinx and his wonderful wife Sherry collected friends and encouraged people like no other. A true power couple! They genuinely displayed the gift of hospitality sprinkled with fun. As a young girl I watched Jinx woo my cousin Sherry. Then I was privileged to be a junior bridesmaid at their wedding. In my eyes they were beautiful, exceeding movie star status....And 55 years later they still had that sparkle!
As Abraham Lincoln wisely stated, “The better part of one’s life consists of his friendships.” This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the spirit that Jinx and Sherry brought to all who knew them.
May God comfort your beloved family. RIP Jinx!!!

Jinx, a very honorable man, with a nice wife Sherry, Daughter and Son. Jinx is a friend and over our early years of life with my family we had wonderful times, from the beginning as a neighbor in Mentor to his career move to Miami. I enjoyed playing backyard volleyball with Jinx and the other neighbors, PLUS drinking Schmidt’s Beer in Mentor. In Miami Jinx shared many Christmases with both our families. Jinx was a giving, trusting man, making you always feeling welcome.
Jinx, is still in his family’s lives and ours, he is just in another place, where we will all meet again.

As we go through life we have the pleasure of meeting that one special person and family who personify love, strength, devotion and friendship. Jinx and family fulfilled that for our family, and to all who met him. In the beginning, some 40 years ago it was readily apparent to us that we had met a truly wonderful family, led by Jinx. Christmas's as Santa were special for him and us. Although he and I are brothers via Vietnam, we rarely spoke of it, except to share information to help one another. It is a pleasure to have known, socialize with, and work with such a loyal man and his family. Mike and Mary Calkins Family.

A wry smile always followed by a great story. So often he would finish off his stories with a hearty laugh. Jinx was a unique individual and i will miss those stories and that laugh. God bless and comfort Sherry, Dawn, Brian and those grandchildren he was so proud of.

We have had the true honor of being friends with Jinx and Sherry and their entire family for 35 years. We have so many cherished memories of our times together supporting and feeding our sons in the MS Douglas gridiron club, dancing to the YMCA, singing Christmas songs around their piano when "Santa" visited, and dinners out together!
Jinx, you are missed already! Your legacy lives on with your beautiful family!
We love you!

Sherry, May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. Michael and I got to know and cherish you and Jinx through our dear former friends/neighbors (Ted & Diane Transue). The 4 of you have always been there and supported each other through rough and happy times. Jinx always had positive and encouraging words for us— and for that we praise him. With deepest sympathy.
Sincerely,
