Leigh “Regs” A. Nichols
It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to Leigh Allen Nichols. He was taken from his family and friends in a motorcycle accident on Saturday April 29, 2023 in Milton, NH.
Leigh was born in Stamford, CT and had lived most of his life in Union, NH. He was a retired Tech Sgt in the US Air Force, serving 22 years. His last position being at NH Air National Guard 157th Air Refueling Wing, Pease AFB in Portsmouth NH. He spent from 2002 until his retirement in 2012 serving on the Honor Guard unit.
Leigh was a bold person who believed in right and wrong, and helping anyone that might need it, whether you were his family, friend, or a stranger struggling. He was passionate to the end about helping fellow veterans like himself, especially those who struggled with PTSD. He recognized a few years ago that there were many services lacking in the Carroll County region for veterans and was determined to change that. As a member of the CVMA 5-6 (Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association) for the last two years, he helped raise thousands of dollars to assist other veterans. His road name was “REGS” because if there was a regulation to be followed, a rule to be researched, or information needed to help a veteran, he was the one that could find it.
He was a part of the team for the Equine Immersion Program which uses equine therapy to help veterans and their families get through life’s struggles and challenges. As well, he worked with fellow veterans at both the Claude E. Batchelder American Legion Post #72 in Alton, NH and the Rochester American Legion Post #7 in Rochester, NH to help any local veterans in need.
Family meant everything to him, whether you were blood related, or part of his “brotherhood” of adopted family. He would do anything for you if he could help. His giving heart and outpouring of constant strength will be missed by many.
He was predeceased by his parents Everett Gordon Nichols and Patricia Marie (Blanchard) Nichols of Union, NH. Grandparents Gordon E and Jessie A (Ede) Nichols of Darien CT, and Mayo H Blanchard of Stamford CT and Lucienne P (Goyette) Blanchard of Union NH.
He is survived by his son Tyler A Nichols and wife Ashley of Milton NH, his daughter Jessica L Lehoux and husband Chris of Sanford ME, his sister Stephanie P Bateman of Effingham NH, and his grandchildren Oliver, Emmett, and Arianna; nephews and nieces, and a very large extended group of friends that he considered his family to the end.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 27,2023 from 1pm to 4pm at the Claude E. Batchelder American Legion Post #72, 164 Wolfeboro Highway, Alton NH 03809.
Donations in Leigh’s memory may be made to Combat Veteran Motorcycle Association (CVMA) Chapter 5-6, PO Box 518 Somersworth, NH 03878.
