Lane was a good neighbor. Always friendly with a smile. My folks, many many years ago, always talked highly of the Rakes family in Patrick County.

Briefly knew Lane in my early teens when I used to hunt deer at Poplar Camp, on the Goode Rakes farm with Richard Rakes and his son Carlton Rakes of Wirtz VA. Good times back then, waking in the cabin early to the smell of coffee and bacon frying as Lane and the rest of the men were preparing for the day's hunt. He was a great fellow that I remember from those times. Condolences to the family of Lane. Doug Saul USAF Ret veteran. Princeton NC

Lane bought my first car from me way back in 1991. It was a 1970 Monte Carlo. He fixed it up really nice and then he sold it. Then later we both regretted letting that car go. He was a really nice man and I enjoyed talking about cars with him. Prayers for all of the family
