Leo Hearld Obituary

Leo Dwyane Hearld entered this world on December 30, 1963, to his
parents Ira and Patricia Hearld, Jr., in Houston, Texas. Leo was affectionately
called “Wayne”, and his maternal grandfather called him “Leo the Lion”.
Leo was educated in Houston ISD public schools. He attended James R.
Reynolds Elementary for a short time, and then Montgomery Elementary,
Dowling Middle, and James Madison High School. His mom expressed how he
enjoyed dressing to impress in school and preferred not to wear jeans and tennis
shoes. He liked wearing slacks and nice shoes.
Leo had a vibrant spirit, well-liked by many, and loved helping people. He
was a kind, tenderhearted man who deeply cared for others. His smile...a big,
radiant smile and infectious laughter would light up any room he entered. He
delighted in making people laugh and was considered the life of any party. Talk
about a dancing machine! Didn’t mind at all if he was the only one on the dance
floor. He appreciated listening to good music and dancing to it.
Leo got his diligent work ethic from his mother, Patricia. He was a hard
worker, and his supervisors entrusted him with completing assigned tasks
efficiently and thoroughly.
From his earliest days as a child, he was taught biblical principles and grew up
in a family where the importance of prayer and trusting God was fundamental.
With his mom, he attended Trinity Missionary Baptist Church where he was
involved in Sunday School as well as the children’s choir. Later, their membership
transferred to Bible Way Church of Holiness. He also visited occasionally with his
wife, The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Memorial Congregation.
Leo was united in marriage to Cassandra Turnbow on August 16, 2014.
Through God’s blessing, this union produced a beautifully blended family. Leo
adored spending time with family whether it was holidays, special events,
vacations, or just kicking back. Leo, Cassandra, and their family were blessed
to experience numerous family vacations including trips to Hawaii, California,
Georgia, various camping trips, and just this past September 2025, they
vacationed in the Dominican Republic. Countless family memories were
created and will be remembered forever.
Leo was preceded in death by his father, Ira Hearld, Jr., his paternal
grandparents, Ira and Ruby Lee Hearld, Sr., his maternal grandparents, Felton
and Claudia Brannon, Sr., two brothers, Kenneth and David Edwards, and his
niece, Aniya Edwards.
His cherished loved ones are his beloved wife, Cassandra Turnbow Hearld;
their beautiful children, Tristan Hearld, Koran Hearld (Brittany), Chalene
Thomas (Brian), Jayden Meloncon, and Khalia Hearld; precious grandchildren,
Allyn Thomas, Devoni and Devin Hearld; his devoted mother, Patricia Edwards;
loving siblings, Russell Edwards, Cassandra Edwards, and Ivy Romeka “Pig”
Hearld. He had a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and
sisters-in-law, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
