Leon William Seidl, Sr

Leon, 90, passed away, March 20, 2016 due to complications from late stages of Alzheimer’s.
Funeral arrangements are:
Visitation from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM and Funeral Mass at Noon, Monday, March 28, 2016 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1927 Trinity Dr, Kingsland, Texas, 78639
Lunch will be served after interment in St. Charles Borromeo Church Hall.
Interment will be at the Cemetery in Kingsland, Texas located
on Hwy 2545 around 2:00 PM.
Leon was born in Houston, Texas. He was one of 6 children of the late Otto Seidl and Freida Menn Seidl. He attended St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas. He was married to Sophenia Loretta Hagerty, June 11, 1947, who preceded him in death, August 15, 2004. He is survived by his loving family: Sherry Seidl Clay, husband: Don, children: Jessica and Jennifer who preceded him in death, January 29, 2014. Debbie Seidl Redditt, husband: Stephen who preceded him in death, October 16, 2015, children: Susie Redditt and Becky Anton, husband: Steven and children: Tyler and Megan. Diane Seidl Isam, son: Dell Isam, son: Mark Isam, wife: Kara, children: Shawn, Krislynn and Chloe; son: John Isam, wife: Shelby Sessums, children: Delilah Spiars, Wyatt and Case; Bill Seidl, wife Jean, son: Mike, wife: Amber, children: Sam, Henry and Emma; son: Matt, wife: Elizabeth, daughter: Mia; daughter: Amanda Seidl Kowal, husband: Chris, sons: Brighton, Liam and Theo; Janet Seidl Carney, husband: Lonnie and children: Heather Neinast and Garrett Neinast. Daughter, Nancy Seidl Brewer who preceded Leon in death, May 21, 2004.
Leon enjoyed a long and fulfilling life. He went to work at the Rein Printing Company in the bindery department, when he was 17 and continued as a bindery man until he retired in 1986 from The Seidl’s Bindery, Inc., which he founded in October, 1975. He moved to Kingsland in 1986 with Loretta, his wife. When diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he moved to Round Rock, Texas and lived with Sherry, Don, Jennifer and Jessica Clay, who became his caregivers.
We will always remember his laughter, his songs and his dedication to his family.

As a young man, he enjoyed participating in league baseball and league bowling. He loved to go fishing and hunting. He enjoyed barbecuing for his family and friends. In early retirement, he traveled with Loretta in the RV and spent many summers travelling with grandchildren and friends across the United States. He loved spending time with his family and watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in school and sports activities.
Leon was a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus for 65 years. He was the Grand Knight for two Councils and served two terms as District Deputy. He delivered meals on Wheels for 12 years. He was the coordinator for the Kingsland Area Salvation Army for two years. He helped the Llano County EMS for four years at their 4th of July Fish Fry to raise funds for equipment for the ambulances.
He enlisted 14 friends from the Kingsland Lions Club to cut-up, bread and cook 600 to 800 lbs of fish – a two day effort – during these annual 4th of July Fish Fry events.
As a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Kingsland, he served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Sacristan and Server. He was a Charter Member and first President of the Men’s Club. He delivered the “Holy Eucharist” to the sick and homebound Catholics, as well as the Catholics in the Kingsland Nursing Home and Wind Chimes Community in Kingsland. He received the Lenten Gentium award from St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. This award is given to one lay person from each diocese to recognize the most outstanding Catholic Spirit.
During his working years and after retirement, he was a member of the both the Austin and National Associations of Lithographers. He received the national Member of the Year Award, the Presidential Award and served as President of the National Association as well as two local clubs. He was a member of the Binding Industries of America, Printing Industries of America, Printing Industries of the Gulf Coast and The Houston Litho Club.
He was a Kingsland Lions Club member for 17 years. He held most of the offices before becoming President. During his term as President, the club won the Chamber of Commerce Award for Organization of the Year, had 26 new members join in one year, a club record. He was five time Chairman or Co-Chairman of the Lions Golf Tournaments, Chairman of Lions Club Parade in Kingsland twice and helped on all of the other parades. He picked up trash on local highways, collected donations on White Cane Day and helped at the Pancake Breakfast twice a year.
He was a Member and Director of Kingsland Chamber of Commerce and received the Chamber of Commerce “Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award” and “Distinguished Service Award”.
He was Aqua Boom Chairman for Kingsland’s 4th of July Celebration and helped to promote the Kingsland area by participating in events sponsored by the Kingsland Chamber of Commerce in surrounding cities.
He served two-3 year terms as a Member, Director and President of the Community Center of Kingsland.
He was a Member and Director of the Hill Country Area Crime Stoppers for 17 years. He served as Chairman for 3 years and Vice Chairman for six years.
He was also a Director of the Kingsland Water Supply Corporation and a twelve year Member and Director of the Highlands Lake Group, an organization to protect the waters of the Colorado River, Buchanan Dam, Lake Travis and Lake Austin.
