Louis Casapulla Obituary

Louis R. Casapulla, age 83, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026.

Born on November 3, 1942, to Luigi Casapulla and Anna Zampini Casapulla, Louis was a lifelong Wilmington resident who lived a full and meaningful life grounded in family, music and quiet humility.  He was the beloved husband of the late Rosemarie Marra Casapulla.

Lou was a devoted father to Michele Casapulla Christopher (Dude) and Louis Casapulla Jr., and a proud Pop-Pop to Adam “AJ” Ciszkowski, Louis Vincent Casapulla, Nicholas Casapulla, Gabriel Casapulla and Amanda Kiser (Aaron). He was also blessed with many nieces and nephews, for whom he cared deeply.

He is survived by his loving siblings, Philomena Carey and Jeanne DiFrancesco (John) and his sister-in-law Arlene Casapulla.  He is preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses, Vincetta “Vee” Sparco (Lou), Rose Borrelli (Paul), Marion Stalloni (Carl), Joseph Casapulla (Gerry), Elizabeth Moore (Dick), Andrew Casapulla and Leonard Carey.

Lou and his family owned and operated the original Casapulla’s Sub Shop in Elsmere, DE, where Lou was truly the heartbeat of the business.  To many, he was more than a boss or a familiar face behind the counter.  He was part of the daily rhythm of the neighborhood, greeting customers with warmth, humor and his unmistakable presence.

A talented musician, Lou was known throughout Delaware as a singing, piano-playing entertainer, performing under the stage name, Lue Cazz.  Music was his passion and his gift.  He wrote songs at a young age and recorded professionally in Delaware, New York and California.  He chose the family business over his professional recording career but continued to entertain locally for many years. Family holidays always included a rocking jam session. He was later awarded an induction into the Delaware Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

Lou loved football and was a diehard fan of the Philadelphia Eagles (Roll Eagles Roll!).  For years, Lou was a familiar presence in the kitchen at the sub shop for the “Boys Club” get togethers, where his love of family, music and community shone through.  He took great pride in his home and spent countless hours in his yard tending to his flowers.

Lou will be remembered for his humble nature, gentle spirit, and his unmistakable catchphrase “HOO HA”, which he would proudly shout when agreeing with you or offering encouragement, leaving everyone smiling and motivated.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church.  Burial will immediately follow at Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Louis R. Casapulla can be made to Delaware Rock and Roll Society, P. O. Box 315, Bear, DE  19701.

Some people aren’t just bosses.
They’re guardians of a place, keepers of order, quiet watchers of who you really are.

I was fourteen when I first started working for you.
I was thirty-four when I left.
That’s a lifetime of becoming—and you were there for all of it.

You trusted very few people.
I know that now.
Trust wasn’t casual for you; it was sacred.
And when you gave it, you didn’t announce it—you handed over responsibility.

You liked the way I tied the rolls.
The way I closed.
You let me take out the trash, the recycling, and empty the grill pit—
the things that mattered most when the lights went off.
You saw me. Quietly. From the camera. From the corner of the room.

You never yelled when I moved the display to help someone find what they needed.
You just smiled and renamed me.
“Cutacross.”
A nickname that said: I know your heart bends toward people.

You kissed the top of my head and called me your little niece.
You told me I had great hair and that I got it from you.
Old-world affection. Family without explanation.

Our families were piasans—
Caserta roots, shared soil, shared survival.
Friends before we were born.
That bond never left the room.

Thank you for trusting me.
For watching without breaking me.
For letting me be myself inside your rules.

You weren’t just part of my first job.
You’re part of who I am.

Louie, your hard work and dedication built something lasting. I’ll cherish you forever.

Love always,
Amber Bernardo aka CUTACROSS -Hoo Haa.
