Charles Louis Flanagan, 79, of Lebanon, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at his home in Lebanon, Kentucky following a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 1, 1945, in Marion County, Louis was known for his genuine compassion and tireless dedication to his family and to members of the community, leaving a lasting and heartfelt impact on many. He previously worked as the owner of Flanagan’s TV Service on Spalding Avenue and dedicated the last 50 years as a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Veterans of Foreign War. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of a local prison ministry, and a hospice volunteer. He was a dedicated member of Saint Charles Catholic Church all his life, serving as a Eucharistic minister and lector. He loved music and was an avid musician. He loved cats and he and his wife rescued 11 cats over the past 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edward Flanagan, Sr.; his mother Catherine Roberta Mudd Flanagan; his brothers Joseph Edward Flanagan, Jr., and Frank Flanagan; and his sisters Pat Langley and Teresa Hawkins.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Aline Peters Flanagan; daughters, Beth Flanagan of Lebanon and Mary Montenegro (Alex) of Bowling Green; his son Charles Gerard Flanagan, Sr. (Jackie) of Lebanon, his grandchildren Kate McPerson (Austin) of Bowling Green and Charles Gerard Flanagan, Jr., and Courtney Flanagan Collins of Lebanon; and his great grandsons Joseph and Zachary Collins, both of Lebanon; his sisters, Mary Slater of Louisville, Barbara Miles of St. Francis, and Dottie Kehm (Dave) of Lebanon, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Saint Charles Catholic Church, 675 Highway 327, Lebanon. Rev. Terry Bradshaw will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
The visitation will be 3-8 pm Friday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 pm by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Pall bearers are Joe Flanagan, Frank Flanagan, John Flanagan, Joe Paul, Hawkins, Dennis Miles, and Frankie Hutchins.
We are deeply thankful for the Green River Hospice staff and to Dr. Julia Brown and her staff for their tireless dedication, empathy, and emotional support they gave not only to our dad, but to our entire family.
