We just learned of Fred's passing. Fred was a long time customer at our driving range in royal oak and were saddened today to learn. He was easily one of our favorite customers, not only for me but every staff member here. Our condolences to his family.

I knew Fred Bowens when we both trained in Aikido at a dojo in Detroit. Fred was solid and kind, with a good sense of humor. Although he was affectionately called “house” because he at first appeared immovable, he was smart, grasped the principles, was easy to work with, and was a valued training partner. From thoughts he shared on occasion, I also had confidence he was a DPD member to be proud of. I will continue to hold on to to those good memories.

I knew Fred since he got assigned to the Sixth Precinct from the academy and again after his return from layoff. A sincere gentleman and friend. We've had some good "talks" through the years and I will miss his laugh and good nature. Maybe he continued working to avoid paying for health care (like most of us are). I really would have liked to have seen him retire and enjoy the fruits of his labor. He was such a well loved man and will certainly be missed by all his DPD family!

Lieutenant Fred Bowens was a good friend of mine who I met through fitness USA , as well as the powerhouse gyms where we trained together for years , and he inspired me to join the force 2 years after he joined. He will be missed , love , and appreciated !

My deepest condolences to Fred's family. I played football with Fred at Saginaw Valley State College [Now Saginaw Valley State University. After college, I consistently saw Fred at the golf driving range in Royal Oak where we hit balls and would chit chat about old and new times. Fred was always a true gentleman with a good heart. Going to the range will never be the same without Fred and his always up to date PXG golf equipment. RIP Fred. Hit em' long and straight in the heavens.
