Lyle Charles Sannes, of Arcadia, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 6, 2025, surrounded by love and the quiet beauty of the land he worked so hard to shape and cherish.
Born in Newberry, Michigan, Lyle was the beloved son of Leona E. Sannes and Loyd G. Sannes. From a young age, he carried within him the values that would define his life- strength, loyalty, hard work, and an unwavering sense of duty to others.
Lyle answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he proudly served with the 11th Calvary Blackhorse Division. As a door gunner, he faced danger with courage and heart, earning both a Medal of Heroism and the Purple Heart for his bravery. Even after being wounded, he continued to provide cover fire so that his fellow soldiers could be rescued- an act of selflessness that spoke volumes about his spirit.
After returning home, Lyle built a long and respected career as a union ironworker, known for his craftsmanship, reliability, and generous nature. Whether at work or at home, he was always the man you could count on- the one that showed up when you needed a hand, no matter how big or small the task.
When the workday ended, Lyle found freedom on two wheels. Riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycles brought him peace and joy, and over the years he logged countless miles across Michigan and beyond. When not on his bike, you’d often find him on his tractor, tending to his land in Arcadia, or working on one of the many projects that reflected his pride and love for home.
Lyle shared more than two wonderful decades with the love of his life, Becky Lindeman. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, travel and adventure- often heading to festivals, gatherings, or just exploring the open road side by side.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Leona and Loyd Sannes; his brother, Loyd G. Sannes; his grandmother, Susan Singleton; his grandfather, Charles Talquist; and his step-grandfather, Jack Singleton.
He is survived by: his devoted partner, Becky Lindeman; sisters, Linda (Russ) Remington and Lana (Barb Grabowski) Sannes; brother, Leonard Sannes; nephews, Leonard R. Sannes and Shawn (Kelly) Kelley; and their children, Jesse (Jaylee) Kelley and their son, Oliver, and Lyndsey Kelley; as well as many friends and extended family members who will always remember his kindness, humor, and steady presence.
Lyle’s life was one of service, love, and loyalty- to his family, his country, and his community. He will be remembered not only for his courage in battle, but his courage in life: his willingness to help, his quiet strength, and his deep devotion to those he loved.
A Celebration of Lyle’s Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, memories, and love for the man who gave so much of himself to others. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Lyle’s memory by showing kindness to someone in need or taking a quiet moment to appreciate the beauty of life- just as he so often did.
Though Lyle’s earthly journey has come to a close, his spirit rides on – Forever free, forever loved, and forever remembered.

I would like to say it was a pleasure knowing Lyle he was a great Ironworker, loved riding his Harley. He was an all around great person. My Father Donald Lake and Lloyd Sannes were great friends and both Business Agents for Local #340 they both passed within 8 days of one another in December 1977. My Late Brother Jack worked with Lyle quite a bit back in the 70’s & 80’s

To Becky and the family of Lyle, please accept the condolences of the Troopers of the 11th Armored Cavalry's veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia. Lyle was a dedicated and hard-charging warrior, one of us, one of our own. He served courageously with the Legendary Blackhorse Regiment in Headquarters Troop of the 1st Squadron in 1969 1nd 1970. Specialist Lyle Charles Sannes will be remembered as an honorable trooper whose very presence brought comfort and support to his fellow troopers. He will be included on the Honor Role of our combat veterans, and honored at our next reunion, as well as other gatherings this coming year. His service highlighted his bravery and valor and was guided with a Purple Heart and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. As grateful Americans we should all pause and salute a man who was willing to put his life on the line for his country. His eulogy so well captures the beauty and greatness of a truly loved Blackhorse brother. As our burial liturgy states: “ his life has not ended, merely changed ..." and as we were together then in Vietnam, we will be together again in the life hereafter, warmly embraced in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
