Lynda Lee Locke McInturf, 78, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dedicated educator, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025, leaving a legacy of love, faith, and knowledge. Born on January 14, 1947, in Athens, Ohio. Lynda was the daughter of the late Allen E. Locke and Wilma Jean Harper Locke.
Following her graduation from Athens High School, class of 1965, she attended Ohio University, where she earned her degree in Education, laying the foundation for a career in teaching. Lynda’s commitment to shaping young minds touched countless lives during her tenure at both Alexander Local and Federal Hocking schools, from which she retired after 30 years.
In 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, Don McInturf. Together, they raised three children: Scott McInturf of Raleigh, North Carolina; Brad McInturf of Athens, Ohio and Kris McInturf Madhi of Exeter, New Hampshire. Lynda was a doting and proud grandmother to Harper Dean McInturf, Kenza Madhi, and Emerson James McInturf, with whom she spent countless hours creating lasting memories.
Lynda is survived by her loving siblings, Dianne (Harry) McCune of Athens and John (Gini) Locke of Asheville, North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved as her own.
In addition to teaching, Lynda was an Licensed Practical Nurse and an entrepreneur with her husband Don, co-owning Carol Lee Donuts, Athens Lock & Key, The Sweet Boutique and numerous student rentals.
Beyond her professional life, Lynda was a woman of deep faith and varied interests. A devout Christian, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including writing poetry, singing and engaging in lively card games.
Lynda Locke McInturf will be remembered for her kindness and empathy, her unwavering dedication to her students, her love of family, and her enduring faith in God. Her warmth will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Lynda, like her mother Jean Locke, was a “doer” in our community. When I came to Athens as a student, I remember her at Carol Lee’s Donuts but knew her better later as part of Jean’s family. Her family are in our thoughts at this time of loss and sadness.

Ms Mac was a pioneer in my life. I’m so so blessed to know her sister, her mother and father , her kids and husband. My life wouldn’t have looked the way it does now if it wasn’t for her faith and persistence with me. She taught me more about life than almost any other teacher. Her love for limericks, Coca Cola , math and her family and let us not forget Maggie her dear beloved Bassett hound. My heart aches for all that she left. The best thing I know how to do is go about life now with what she taught me and teach others the way she taught me.
