Manuel's Obituary

Manuel Piedad Sandoval Jr. was born December 9, 1955 in South Texas. He passed away September 10, 2021 at the age of 65, surrounded by his wife Mickey, son Manuel Jose Jr., and niece Magdalena Martinez. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Jose and Maria Sandoval, maternal grandparents Alfredo and Anastacia Cantu, parents Manuel Piedad Sr. and Marcella Sandoval, sister Mary Camacho, and his children Joseph and Julie Ann Sandoval.

Manuel “Meme” is survived by his lifelong partner, wife Micaela “Mickey” B. Sandoval, his children Roseanna (Johnathon Sample), Joanna and Manuel Jose Sandoval Jr. III, his grandson Isaiah David Sample, his sisters Gloria Aleman, Maria Sandoval, Eloisa Hernandez (Ernest), his brother Daniel Sandoval, sister-in laws Clara Martinez, Dominga Olivares (Raymond), and Seferina Howington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many more cousins, extended family, and friends.

Manuel devoted his life to his loving wife and family. Manuel and Mickey married in 1978, after a long and dance-filled courtship. They spent many happy years taking in their nieces, nephews, and cousins for visits and adventures. They later had their own children they raised together in South Texas. Manuel thrived working in the natural gas industry where he had worked alongside his father as a boy, and worked for over 40 years before he grudgingly retired in August 2021. He was a hard worker and quickly became someone his coworkers depended on for guidance, help, good company and jokes. He loved his work at Enterprise and all his coworkers and relationships he built over the years.

Manuel was a loving father that indulged in all his childrens’ silliness and was a willing victim of their mischief, all the while giving their mother every bit of trouble he could. He enjoyed orchestrating practical jokes for his own entertainment, and then retelling his pranks at every opportunity. He had an exceptional memory, and never forgot a face or a name of the many friends he made. Manuel exemplified good and honest work, how to listen without judgement and take everything with a grain of salt. He was a strong and steady man that shared his love for people freely, was an example of kindness and generosity, befriended strangers, and brought laughter to even more with his quick wit. He was strong and steadfast to the end, and was never one to complain. He was no stranger to hardship, and surpassed every obstacle bravely and humbly, with the love and support of his family and friends. He was loved beyond measure and will be missed by many.

A memorial will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Peters Funeral Home in Cotulla, TX from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations towards medical bills uncovered by his insurance.
