Margaret Freeman Obituary

Margaret Gordon Freeman, born May 6, 1936, to the parents of James and Emma Gordon.


She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and attended Norfolk State college. She met and married Lawrence V. Freeman, Sr., on April 11, 1958, who at that time was an SGT in the U.S. Air Force. They had four children, Joyce R. Williams (Stanley deceased), Cheryl L. Starnes (Kenneth), Lawrence V. Freeman Jr., and Michael A. Freeman (Lenell), a sister Dorothy Norfleet, 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.


Being a military family, we traveled quite a bit, such places as California, Japan, Arkansas, Alaska, and retired in Virginia which is both our homes. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was President of the Workers for Christ, and Vice President  of the female Usher Board.


A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Mt. Zion Baptst Church, 900 Middlesex Street, Norfolk. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 3pm until 5pm Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake.

Please accept my deepest condolences. Mrs. Freeman meant so much to me and always treated me like part of the family. I will always be grateful for her love, kindness, and the warmth she shared so freely. She was truly special and will be deeply missed.
