Maggie “Toots” JonesMaggie Jones, known lovingly as Toots to most and Mema to her cherished grandchildren, was born in Nashville, Tennessee to parents James and Hellan West.She spent most of her life in Kansas.She was the second of four sisters, and the bond between them shaped the woman she became. Darlene Pruett, Regena Frost, and Michelle West, who all preceded her in death, were not only her siblings but her lifelong companions.Maggie attended Allison Middle School and Wichita Heights High School, forming friendships that proved to be lifelong. She had a way of staying connected, remembering people, and showing up when she was needed. Many of her classmates remained friends for decades.Her life took its sweetest turn when she met the boy who would one day be her husband. Maggie met Ron Jones when she was just 12 years old. Their love grew through adolescence, through Ron’s tour in Vietnam, and into the life they built together. In 1970, they married at the Church of the Resurrection.In 1975, they welcomed their daughter, Kori Heiman (Jared). Being a mother was her greatest joy. Ron and Maggie spent many years watching Kori play basketball and compete in horse shows. Later, as “Mema,” she was a constant source of comfort, fun, and wisdom for her grandchildren, Jayce (Ben) Powers and Alexandra (Braden) Bischler, creating memories and traditions they will cherish forever.Maggie lived a life full of many passions. She was a talented quilter. She found peace and joy in horseback riding, a hobby that connected her to nature and brought her a sense of freedom. She cared for family members with a devotion that came naturally to her, always putting others before herself without ever seeking recognition. Maggie was the person friends and relatives called when they needed support, guidance, or simply someone to listen to, because they knew she would always be there.Professionally, Maggie built a long and respected career as a Human Resources and Personnel Director for several companies. She treated people with dignity and made workplaces better simply by being part of them.Maggie’s life was defined by love for her husband, her daughter, her grandchildren, her sisters, her friends, and anyone fortunate enough to cross her path.Though her passing leaves a deep ache, her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will remain a treasure beyond measure.
