Margaret Midkiff Obituary

Gretna………Margaret M. Midkiff, age 85 of Gretna passed away Monday, December 29, 2025 at her residence.    


Born December 4, 1940 in Miami FL, she was a daughter of the late Frank Tyler Midkiff, Sr. and Martha Head Midkiff.  She was predeceased by her first husband, William Wilson, Sr.; her second husband, Kenneth Wayne Midkiff; a granddaughter, Malerie Anne Quarles; and two brothers, Frank Midkiff, Jr. and Dr. James “Jimmy” Midkiff, DDS.  Mrs. Midkiff was a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church.  She was the first female police officer for the Town of Chatham and a former bookkeeper for the Town of Gretna.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing scrabble, genealogy and spending time with her special dog, Buddy.    


She is survived by four sons, Billy Wilson, Jr. and friend, Michael Moss of Danville, Jon Wilson and wife, Debbie of Hurt, Jamie Wilson of Gretna and Daniel Midkiff of Gretna; two daughters, Robin Taylor and husband, Earl of Hurt and Melanie Anne Quarles and husband, Wade of Gretna; a special son-in-law, James “Slugger” Quarles; six grandchildren, Joshua Taylor and wife, Apple, Jake Taylor and wife, Starla, Nichole Brumfield and husband, Brandon, Jeremy Quarles, Sabrina Quarles and husband, Brandon Adams and Miranda Hagerman and husband, Michael; six great-grandchildren; and numerous special nieces and nephews.    


Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2026 at Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. R.G. Rowland.  


In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Pittsylvania County Pet Center.


The family would like to thank the members of the First Baptist Church of Gretna, to the staff of Centra Hospice and to Granny Midkiff's special caregiver, Alan Adams for their love, care and hospitality.
