Margaret J. Utgard age 96 passed away peacefully on Monday, February 02, 2026 with family by her side. She was born November 12, 1929 in Olympia, WA to parents John Brovold and Nora Johnson Brovold. When she was six months old they moved to the Cedarhome area of Stanwood.
She graduated high school at Twin City High School, class of 1947. She then entered Everett Providence School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Between her junior and senior years of high school while working at Pictsweet she met the man she would marry. Margaret was married to Irving B. Utgard, son of Dewey and Clara Utgard on September 30, 1951 at Camano Lutheran Church. They had four children. Irving passed away in 1976.
When the children were all in school Margaret began working as an RN at Josephine Sunset Home and worked there 30 years until she retired.
Margaret was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Stanwood Area Historical Society and Fritjov Sons of Norway.
Margaret gave freely of her time as a volunteer for local organizations – Cub Scout leader, administered immunizations at schools and senior center, Twin City Wives Club, Karlene Anderson Pancake Breakfast, Senior Center foot clinic, mending at Josephine, quilting at OSLC, Food Bank thrift shop and Stanwood Area Historical Society.
Margaret lost her eldest daughter, Linda in 2020. She is survived by daughter Janet (Scott), son Jeff, daughter Barb (Craig); two granddaughters – Melissa and Nicole (Josh); six great grandchildren – Jennifer, Kevin, Azariah, Samie, Peyton and Ronon; and three great great grandchildren – Austin, Eva and Layla-May.
A graveside service at Anderson Cemetery will be held at 10:15 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 07 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Stanwood.
Memorials may be given in Margaret’s name to the Stanwood Area Historical Society, PO Box 69, Stanwood WA 98292 or to a favorite charity.
