Maria Culp Obituary

Maria “Mary” Culp, 63, of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in Amherst.  She was born September 20, 1955 in Littlefield to Ramon Rodriquez Sr. and Feliciana Montez Rodriquez.

Mary married Edwin “Ed” Culp on June 10, 1972 in Littlefield.  Together they owned and operated Ed Culp Tractor Service, and Mary could often be found working by his side, covered in grease and dirt, but after quitting time she would shine up and be ready to go country and western dancing with Ed, her “Honey”.  Mary was a tough woman who never gave up, and fought and beat breast cancer.  She was small in stature, but big in heart, and her son James called her his “5’2” firecracker”.  She enjoyed watching old western movies, listening to George Strait, and was an avid Cowboys fan.  Mary was a very caring and giving woman who just liked helping people, and she especially enjoyed taking care of children. She loved kids and they all loved her.  She was a devout Catholic, and strong in her Faith.  She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield.

Mary is survived by a son, James Culp and wife Rachel of River Falls, Wisconsin; a daughter, Rosa Davis and husband David of Amherst; five grandchildren, Aaron Cabello of California, Peyton Culp and Kayden Culp both of Wisconsin; Michael Culp of Lubbock, TX; and Kasandra Culp of Lubbock; two great grandchildren; five sisters, Consuelo Elizondo and husband Albert of Lubbock, Hope Ramirez of Littlefield, Concha Mayes of Littlefield, Guadalupe Manuel and husband Troy of Lubbock, and Sally Espinoza of Lubbock; four brothers, Juan Rodriquez of Levelland, Ramon Rodriquez Jr. and wife Lupe of Littlefield, Rudy Rodriquez and wife Blanca of Littlefield, and David Rodriquez and wife Crissy of Levelland; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.  Waiting for her in Heaven was the love of her life, Ed Culp who passed away February 6, 2000; her parents; a sister, Carol Ann Rodriquez; and a brother, Victor Rodriquez.

Funeral Mass will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 19, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield with Father Brian Wood officiating.  Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery in Amherst.  Serving as pallbearers will be Victor Rodriquez, Patrick Rodriquez, Michael Rodriquez, Andy Rodriquez, Anthony Booth and James Decker.  Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Grace Chapel in Littlefield.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mary’s honor.  Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
