Marie T. (Giannangeli) Chuckran, 98, of Lansford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept 26th surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Joseph B. Chuckran who died in 1994. Born in Summit Hill, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Immaculata (Yannone) Giannangeli and was a member of the former St. Ann Church and St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley. A 1943 graduate of St. Ann Catholic High School, she became employed as a reporter and photographer in the Lansford office of Call Chronicle Newspapers. She later attended classes of dress design at the Traphagen School of Fashion and Queens College in Manhattan where she was also employed at Westinghouse International on Wall Street. Upon marriage, she returned to Lansford and was employed by Call Chronical Newspapers as a local correspondent. She also worked alongside her brother Fred Johnson at his paint store for over 40 years retiring at age 88. She served as secretary for the first Parent-Teacher Association in St. Michael School, served on the election board in Lansford middle ward, was leader of a Brownie troop of Lansford Girl Scout Association, and was Financial Secretary of the Lansford branch of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association for more than thirty years. She was a master seamstress making her own wedding gown, clothing for her children which also included coats, prom dresses and bridesmaid dresses. She knitted and crocheted scarves, mittens, baby clothes and afghans. She loved cooking and baking for family, friends and church events.
Survivors are her children, Dru-Ann Emmerling (John) of New York City, Elissa Purpura (Rob) of Woodlyn PA, Joseph Chuckran of Mclean VA, Jeanine Faust (Glenn) of Center Valley PA, and Laurie Panichelli (Anthony) of West Chester PA, brother Gerald Giannangeli of Park Ridge NJ, and 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by brothers Alfred Giannangeli and Col. Anthony R. Giannangeli USAF, and sisters Gloria Caris and Grace Drey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Summit Hill. Calling Hours are Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Funeral Arrangements have been placed in care of the Parambo Funeral Home of Summit Hill. Online Condolences may be shared at www.parambofh.com.
