Marie L. Metosh of Petersburg, VA, entered eternal rest on 4 May 2025. Born on St. Thomas, USVI to parents Pierre Emile Danet and Marie Helen (Bernier) Danet. Marie was a graduate of St. Peter and Paul Catholic School, with many interests and hobbies, while surrounded by loved ones near and far.
At a young age she worked as a switchboard operator for the Virgin Islands Telephone Company. Later, she moved on to The West Indian Company, where she worked for many years before retiring. In the late 1970’s she moved to Virginia. She worked for Sears for a short time before transferring her many skills to private duty care.
Marie was married to her first husband, George B. Swan, Jr., with whom she shared many cherished memories. Their union was marked by love, respect, and mutual support, and together they built a life filled with joy and companionship. George preceded Marie in death, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Marie later found love again with her second husband, Joseph R. Metosh. Their relationship was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and they continued to create beautiful memories together, enriching each other's lives with care and affection.
Marie was an avid gardener and loved tending to her many rose bushes, among other beautiful plants and flowers. She was also an avid bowler and spent time with her bowling league. In her later years, Marie enjoyed playing cards, her favorite game being Rummy on Saturdays with two of her daughters, where the games included breaks for food and dessert between fiercely competitive hands. Games were often played late into the evening and sometimes included her third daughter or additional family members.
Marie loved baking and sharing her sweet bread and tarts with family, especially her grandkids. The holidays were delicious.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Emile Austin, Virginia, Medrick, Anne, Pierre Pete, and Francis; son David Swan, and granddaughter Nicole Swan Chavous.
Marie is survived by her children Ann P. Richardson (Raymond Richardson), Agnes Venzen, Rose Roberts; sister Christine Burroughs (Ron Burroughs) and grandchildren Conroy Venzen, Oswain Venzen, Jr. (Crissy Venzen), Vickie Venzen (Eric Hagey), Valerie Bosley (Dennis Bosley), Yvette Appleby (Stanford Appleby), Yvonne Ross (Derrick Ross), Jeanette Hayes (Elton Hayes), Michael Richardson (Kristin Richardson), Michael Roberts (Betsy Roberts), Kristin Roberts and a host of great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends.
A family visitation and public viewing will be held on Monday May 12, 2025 at 11 a.m., followed by the Catholic Mass at 12 Noon at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 151 W. Washington Street in Petersburg, Virginia.
