Marilyn Kay (Lawrence) Ireland
December 4, 1930 – January 7, 2026
Marilyn, also known as “Meem, Mimi, & Mema,” lived to the grand ole age of 95 years! She had a One- of-a-kind personality that was bubbly and colorful! Marilyn’s charismatic personality was magnetic! She loved getting to know people and their stories, and in return everyone loved her!
Marilyn’s childhood was spent in Almont, Michigan where she loved riding horses on their parents’ farm. After graduating from Almont High School, she entered Stephens College, in Missouri, studying aviation to be a flight attendant.
Marilyn, was meant to be on the stage and she had her opportunity as a model for General Motors, being crowned as Miss Apple Queen, participating in local parades driving her red convertible corvette with the grandkids sitting on top waving to the crowds, and taking continual honors at Mitzenfeld Department Store for being Top Salesperson. She also liked to give back to the community demonstrated in her volunteer work as a Candy Striper for Beaumont Hospital, and at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in the Resale Shop.
Soon after graduating from college, she met the love of her life, Hugh Ireland! They married and raised 3 children: Jeff, Lisa & Craig. Life was full of adventure in the homes they made mostly in Michigan: Bloomfield Hills, Ludington, Metamora, Rochester, Torch Lake, and Ocean Ridge, Florida.
As much as Marilyn will be missed, her family is grateful for all the wonderful memories. The Lord has called her home, and is now in the arms of Jesus!
Marilyn will be buried at the Metamora Cemetery in Metamora, MI. She is survived by her children: Jeff Ireland, Lisa (Kim) Hubert, and Craig (Paula) Ireland, and grandchildren: Stacie Ireland, Cameron (Emily) Ireland, Christen (Dan) Kirsammer, Catherine Ireland, Cail (Kaila) Hubert, and Kalyn (Colton) Walters, and Great Grandchildren: Mia Chapman, Ella Chapman, Paxson Walters, Freya Ireland, and Louisa Kirsammer. Predeceased by her parents Ross and Marion Lawrence; husband, Hugh Ireland; sister, Sharon Kirk; and grandsons: Jeffrey Ireland and Logan Hubert.
Visitation will take place for Marilyn on Sunday, January 11 at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home in Clarkston with a public viewing from 10:30-11:30 to be followed by a Service.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Judes Children Research or Tunnels to Towers.

I worked for Marilyn many years ago having met her at the Alden Muffin Tin one summer. I needed work more than money so cleaned house for her at the cottage. I suggested a rate of $10-15/hour during my interview and she was willing to pay me $15 "...because you're a college graduate". Never underestimate the value of education. :) She was a delightful employee and friend. I'm sure she is missed by many, including me.

I had the wonderful opportunity to get to know Marilyn (and her husband, Hugh) when they lived at our condo in Bellaire. Marilyn was a delightful force... full of love and life and I enjoyed every moment we shared. My deepest sympathy to her children, grandchildren and extended family.

I was enriched by knowing Marilyn. I have been one of her caregivers for the past several years and I have been blessed by our relationship. We would read scripture together and pray together . Reading the Word was soothing for Marilyn. I will miss her physical presence but she was weary of this world and ready to go home. Love you Marilyn ❤

Bill and I have such happy memories of Marilyn - the quintessential hostess at the farm for Thanksgiving, the doting mother and grandmother with a twinkle in her eye, the vibrant storyteller with a mischievous sense of humor. We especially admired the close and loving relationships we saw between her and her grandchildren. She will be missed but so fondly remembered.
