Mario A. Scrimenti

1931 - 2025

ANSONIA: Mario A. Scrimenti, (lovingly called “Sonny”) age 94, entered eternal rest on December 23, 2025, in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 68 years to Charlotte (Ordway) Scrimenti.

Mario was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 24, 1931 son of the late Louis and Catherine (Passander) Scrimenti. A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was a graduate of Ansonia High School and went on to attain his bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University, where he played on the baseball team. Following college, in 1953, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged in 1955, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He went on to earn his master's degree from Southern Connecticut State University. He also briefly attended Georgetown University School of Law. He served both in the Family Court of New Haven and in the State of Connecticut Superior Court in Waterbury as a Juvenile Probation Officer until his retirement. Mario will always be remembered as man who loved God and his family. If you knew Mario, you would know that he exhibited deep compassion and genuine empathy for others, often spending time sharing his wisdom and speaking into the real struggles and cares of others. His sense of humor brought joy to those around him and he made others feel like family. Mario remained active in the lives of his children and shared a special bond with his grandchildren. Mario enjoyed playing sports, particularly baseball, golf, and bowling. In his later years, he even competed with his grandson Justin in bowling league. He was the biggest cheerleader for his granddaughter, Kristen during her time playing high school softball. A devout Catholic, he was a life-long communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He looked forward to yearly retreats at the Holy Family Retreat House in Farmington.

In addition to his wife Charlotte, he leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Kathleen Rasbach (Robert) of Ansonia and Sharon M. Scrimenti of Stratford, sons, Alan Scrimenti (Kathryn) of Woodbridge and David Scrimenti of Ansonia, grandchildren, Justin Rasbach (Elizabeth) of Ansonia, Kristen Torres (Jacinto) of Ansonia, Sebastian Scrimenti and Dmitri Scrimenti of Woodbridge, great-granddaughters, Ava and Isla Torres as well as a great-granddaughter soon to be born, and many cousins.

Visiting hours will take place on Monday, December 29th 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, at 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Tuesday, December 30, 2025, his funeral will begin at 9:15 am from the funeral home and proceed to Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am.
