Marion "Bud" F. McCarthy, Jr.

1943 - 2024

Marion “Bud” F. McCarthy, Jr., 80, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Great Plains Health Hospital. He was born on September 16, 1943 in Aurora, NE the son of Marion Bud Sr. and Viola Mae (Catlett) McCarthy.

Bud grew up and went to school in Grand Island, NE.  He enlisted in the U.S. AirForce and served from 1960-64.  He married Ann Marie Newton on June 6, 1965 in Crookston, NE and to this union three daughters were born.  Bud worked for Union Pacific Railroad and owned and operated Buds Lawn Service in North Platte for over 30 years.  Buds family and grandchildren were very special to him.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann; daughters, Patricia Streweler (Rick) of Arnold; Debra Pascoe of Lincoln; and Barbara Wachner (Trent) of Bellevue; grandchildren, Shawn, Megan, Kristy, Heather, Bryan, April, Joseph, Joshua, Cody, Tristan, Ryan, Amanda, Adam, and Rachel; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; brother, John McCarthy (Deb) of Washington; sisters, Peggy Svoboda, Julie Burkhardt, and Susan Reynek all of Grand Island; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bud Sr and Viola; grandson, Matthew; brothers, Joe, Mike, Will, and Eddie McCarthy; sister, Jeanette; in-laws, Don and Dolly Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating.  Burial will follow in North Platte Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15th at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
