Marlene Floyd Obituary
Marlene Frances Floyd of Princeton died Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Richard Owens Hospice Center in Peoria. She went to meet her Lord with her brothers holding her hands.
Funeral services for Marlene will begin at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 4, at the Seatonville Congregational Church Independent. Pastor Bill Jacobsen will officiate. Burial will follow at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Princeton. Visitation for Marlene will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, October 3 at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley, as well as one hour prior to funeral services, Wednesday, in the church.
Marlene was born in 1935 in Princeton to Erven "Hagan" and Wahneetah (Simon) Floyd.
Marlene graduated from DePue High School and began work at Westclox. She took a break from barbering and worked for Dr. Rick Dorsch, D.D.S. in Princeton. She returned to barbering, working for Jim Peterson in Princeton, before buying him out and assuming ownership of her own shop.
Her love of softball led her to join the Rexall Girls Softball team as a catcher while still in high school. Throughout her career she received numerous awards, including the "player of the week." She was also named as a member of the All Tournament Team following the state tournament.
Marlene was also known for her antique collecting. She was a fixture at many auctions and antique shops.
She was a member of the Seatonville Congregational Church Independent and past treasurer of the Sunday school. She also served as a board member on the mission board. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and The Closet in Princeton.
Survivors include her three brothers, Stanley (Sally) Floyd of Sugar Grove, Dennis (Marge) Floyd of DePue, and Larry (Kit) Floyd of Princeton; her aunt, Odessa (Frances) Fontana, of Princeton; her nieces and nephews, Denise (Jerry) Reed, Janda Schleder, Mark (Amy) Floyd, Robyn (Scott) Wilson, Bill Floyd, Chris Floyd, Jason (Emy) Floyd, Megan (Casey) Floyd, Pat (Elyse) Beaber, Jeff Floyd, and Scott Floyd; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Donald, and her brother, Leon, in infancy.
