Marlene H. Mott, 76, of Liverpool passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday.
Marlene grew up in New Paltz and had two older sisters with whom she was close. She graduated from SUNY Cortland in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in Recreation. During her time at Cortland, she was a proud Theta Phi and continued to enjoy reunions around the country with her sorority sisters throughout her life.
Marlene married her husband Hugh in 1967 and had two sons, Ed and Mike, in the early 1970s. After nine years living in western Massachusetts, they moved to Liverpool in 1978. Shortly thereafter, she began a successful career as a real estate agent, which she continued for nearly 30 years.
In the early 1980s, Marlene and her family spent time at the Antlers on Raquette Lake as part of an alumni program. Based on their love of the area, in 1983 Marlene and Hugh purchased a property on the lake where local legend Jim Bird had moved the “Ice House” of a former summer resort. They then spent the next couple decades turning the building into a beautiful summer home where Marlene spent every summer for the rest of her life.
One of Marlene’s great loves and accomplishments in recent years was running the “Thursday Night on the Lake” summer music program at Raquette Lake’s historic St. Williams Church. During the winter months, she spent her time lining up funding, identifying acts, and planning the schedule. Then, each Thursday night from July 4 to Labor Day, she hosted the weekly concerts and enthusiastically ran the popular “Pie Raffle” fundraiser at the conclusion of each performance. Marlene continued this effort to the end and she has left a full schedule of concerts this summer for music lovers to enjoy.
In December 2016, Marlene finally welcomed her long-awaited granddaughter, Georgie Mott, daughter of son Mike and daughter-in-law Holly. During the last year and a half she was able to visit with Georgie a number of times, including in both Cincinnati, where Georgie lives, and at Raquette Lake.
Marlene will be sorely missed by Hugh, her husband of 50 years, Mike, Holly, Georgie, her beloved dogs Miles and Chiquita, and many friends and family. We hope by now she has reunited with son Ed, her sisters, and other loved ones who passed before her.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt 31, Baldwinsville with funeral services to follow at 3:00 pm. Private burial will take place in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Williams on Long Point, PO Box 71, Raquette Lake, NY 13436 or SUNY Cortland’s Raquette Lake Endowment Fund, Cortland College Foundation, PO Box 2000, Cortland, NY 13045-0900.

We were so saddened to hear about Marlene's untimely passing last night during the break in our performance at Inlet last night. I was wondering where Marlene and Hugh could be, as we so often see you at our concerts. We loved Marlene and recognize the beauty of her charm and generosity. We feel so fortunate to have known her through her work at St Williams with the music series. Such fond memories of visiting the beautifully restored ice house and Hugh taking our grand kids out on the boat. Our sincere condolences and hope to see you soon, Hugh. Love, Annie & Jonny

I only knew you and Hugh for a short time thru the music. But you were so gracious to us when ever Loren played at the lake, taking us back to your camp and feeding us. You worked so hard at the music, but I think it was your passion. You will surely be missed. MY sympathy and prayers to Hugh and family.

Marlene was always one of the highlights of my summer. She worked hard to get the Thursday programs arranged for St. Williams, but was always upbeat and friendly and had time to visit. I'll really miss her.

Aunt Marlene, always full of jokes and laughter, you will be greatly missed. You were by my side when I lost my mom and John and helped us carry on. Thank you. There will be another hollow space in my heart. May you rest in peace
