Martina DePillars Obituary
DePillars, Ms. Martina-63 of Las Vegas, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. Memorial services will be held 2:00pm Saturday, March 27, 2021 with an 1:30pm family hour at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel, 3021 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48507.
Ms. Martina Rene (Thompson) DePillars was born February 16th, 1958 in Flint Michigan to Betty A. Petty and John G. Coleman Jr. Martina was raised in Flint and went to schools in the Viking Territory. She was a God-fearing woman who accepted Christ in 2017 at St. John Baptist Church. She worked at Bridgewater Interiors for 9.5 years before retiring to go to Las Vegas to be a Nanny for her twin grandbabies. Martina loved all 12 grandbabies and her 1 great-grandbaby. She also loved beating her kids and grands in every Milton Bradley® and Parker Brother® game on Family game nights. Martina married Lawson Earl DePillars Jr., on July 14th, 1978 and out of that union came 4 beautiful children. Later Martina was blessed with another beautiful baby girl, Markeda. Martina was 63 years old when she received her mansion not made by man’s hands.
Martina leaves to cherish her memory: her mom, Betty A. Petty of Flint, MI; her dad, John G. Coleman Jr. of Flint, MI; 2 daughters, Dominique (Lakendrick) Fisher of Las Vegas, NV, and Markeda DePillars of Flint, MI; 3 sons, Lawson (Shakea) DePillars of San Antonio, Tx, TJ DePillars of San Antonio, Tx, and Joshua (Ana) DePillars of Flint, MI; 13 grandchildren, Lamarr Lee, Ajahanna DePillars, Brianna DePillars, and Cianna DePillars of San Antonio, Tx, Taejon DePillars and Daijon DePillars of Flint, MI, Ta’Jiha DePillars and Ny’Ryeah Depillars of San Antonio, CJ DePillars, Mile Fisher and Mila Fisher of Las Vegas, NV, Na’Myiah DePillars of Macon, GA, and Azuliana DePillars of Lansing, MI; 1 great granddaughter, Saniyah Thomas; 3 brothers, Markis Coleman of Swartz Creek, MI, Marcus Coleman of Flint, MI, and Michael Thompson of Flint, MI; 3 sisters, Darlene (Elbert) Holt of East Lansing, MI, Debra (DC) Coleman of Flint, MI, and Rhonda Craig of Dallas, TX; 2 step-daughters , Eboni Scott of San Antonio, Tx, and Jakaylah Bracy of Flint, MI; 3 God sons, Kelvin Martin of East Lansing, Lavion Cheeks of Flint, MI, and Jordell Martin of Flint, MI; 2 special aunts, Dorothy Denson of Flint, MI, and Francine Henderson of Grand Blanc, MI; 2 uncles, William (Yvette) Thompson of Flint, MI, and Gary (Mary) Thompson of Decatur, GA; special cousins, Elton Denson and Owen (Sonia) Denson of Flint, MI, Tujuana (Stacy) Denson of Kokomo, IN, Teleah Denson of Detroit, MI, William (Phyllis) Thompson of Houston, Tx, Tara Carswell of Atlanta, GA; TBF Mahaley Freeman, BFF Carol Adams, Linda Cheeks, all of Flint, MI, and Gail Keith of TN, Nella Carter, Brenda Gillond, and Ginger Emily of LA.
Martina was proceeded in glory by: her husband; grandparents, Clark (Josephine) Henderson, John (Annie Mae) Coleman Sr.; great grandmother, Mary Gleaton; uncles, Otis Sanders and Steve Henderson.

This was my girl when we lived in Arena East Apartments, I would love to go and sit with Martina and listen to her stories while she cracked me up. I ran into her a couple of time throughout the years and when I did it seemed like old times. She will be missed as she was one of the REAL ONES!! Rest In Heaven Martina

You will greatly be missed by all, I had the pleasure of meeting by phone, a very pleasant person indeed, I so wanted to meet you in person, I'm so sorry I didn't get to do that before your passing, I truly hope to meet the rest of my side of the DePillars family as my granddad would be so proud that all of the DePillars got to meet each other, that is still my grand intention is to meet my roots. As I've said to Martina in our conversations, my granddad's name is Hilton and my dad is Hilton Jr.
I'm still interested in meeting the rest of my DePillars heritage, it is important for our children to know their family background. Because we don't know when, where, or time.+

My Sweet Dear Friend. She was a great person, one of the funniest, loving people i have ever met. She loved her family with her all, and always took on new family members. She told me stories i will never forget, and taught me lessons I will always remember. I never thought the last time we talked would be our last conversation. She loved God, and always prayed for me.
