Marvin “Marv” Deur, age 89 of White Cloud, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 when the angels came to take him to his home in Heaven to meet Jesus and be reunited with his wife, Janette. Marv was born on February 15, 1934 in Fremont to Rhin and Gennie (Jordan) Deur and graduated from Fremont High School. Marv married Janette Webster Dunham on February 15, 1980 and Janette preceded him in death on August 12, 2018. Marv has been a lifelong resident of the Newaygo County area and was a longtime and strong community supporter of the White Cloud Community where he had served on the White Cloud School Board and served as President and was a long time member of the White Cloud Rotary.
One of Marv's love was to work and many that knew him would agree. In 1975, Marv opened “The Shack” in Jugville and for the next 48 years, grew the business into a wonderful retreat for many. Marv was always ready with the scoop of ice cream for the world renowned banana splits served at The Shack nightly. Marv truly enjoyed the time he spent with meeting new friends and fellowship with old friends throughout the years at The Shack on Robinson Lake. Marv also built Deur’s Tire Barn in 1961 which evolved into Deur’s Venture and currently D & B Brine. Marv truly loved the Lord and later in life would often say to others, “I am only a sinner, saved by grace,” and Marv is enjoying God’s splendor and perfect light in heaven today.
Marv is survived by his son, Butch (Sherri) Deur; his grandchildren, Prudence (Chad) Kukal; JD (Susan) Deur; his great grandchildren, Casidy, Brandon, Cody, Elizabeth, and Lauren; his great great grandson, Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janette.

I’ve gone The Shack every year for 17 years with the Bibles International group. I always appreciated Marv’s desire to give God the glory and credit for everything. He had such a humble spirit and was so encouraging. He taught me a lot by his life. My family is so sorry for the family to hear of his passing. We are praying for comfort from the Lord.

Butch, JD and family our prayers and thoughts are with you all during this difficult time. Marv always had a smile for us when ever we would go to the shack. There were different times we talked about God and how good he had been to us, seeing us through with Jim's cancer surgeries.
He is now where he wanted to be with his wife.

Never in my lifetime have I ever met such a wonderful and honest Man of God.....Not only did he talk it, he lived it, demonstrated it through actions in his persoinal life. Going to The Shack was not just a destination place, it is going Home to Marv's House for dinner or Breakfast and a place to rest and be taken care of....His smile, His love, His genuine caring attitude, and His very presence will surely be missed. My hope is to one day see my friend again in my fathers House, with many mansions. Thank You Marv for being the Godly, Manly, Father figure you was, It meant everything to me in my life! You memories will last, and you will be sorely missed!

We visited The Shack many times over the years while we lived in Michigan and again since we’ve lived in Ohio. Missed his wife last time we were there. So grateful for the memories we have had with him over the years. Surely will miss him at The Shack. He definitely was a good, and godly man. Condolences to his family. May he rest in peace. May we all strive to meet him in heaven one day.

For many years, I did fundraising auctions for area schools. Nearly every time I did one, one of the auction items was a night at The Shack. It was a guaranteed overbid. Eventually, Gayle and I decided to come up and check this place out. We've certainly enjoyed our visits to The Shack and became friends with Marv and the gang. While we send sympathies to the family, we rejoice as Marv is now in heaven and praising his Creator in person.

Marv always put God and others before himself. HIs support to the Newaygo County Fair changed the landscape and buildings to the grounds we have today. We could not do it without people like Marv. He will be missed. My sympathies to the family during this time.
