To the whole Berkey Family,
Mary Kay and I have had a special connection for my entire life. I guess it was meant to be that way, even if we were only cousins. She and I had wonderful adventures together (some included some of you). I consider this really an accomplishment considering for 60 of those years we lived 3,000 miles apart and both had other responsibilities. I will be forever grateful for her friendship and love. I know, that since she is finally at rest, she will get to see her mom, something she had often mentioned. I will remember Mary Kay and all of you in my thoughts and prayers for the rest of my life.

Dear Laura, Artie, Margaret and the whole family - - What do I remember about Mrs. Berkey? Well, one thing is for sure - there were two places I was fed when not in my house - - Theresa's pizza place and the Berkey's house.... Your mom was like a mom to all the kids and it warms my heart to remember 3rd Avenue, the stoop, bottlecaps and the schoolyard. Wonderful memories of your beautiful mom and the whole truly blessed family right across the street from us. Lots of Love Debbie (Marsala) and let me add in Johnny & Gloria - - as I know we all feel the same way.
HUGS and deepest condolences in this time of sadness. God be with all of you today and every day....

My favorite memory of Mary K is of her sitting on our front porch with my momma and a couple of other neighborhood moms while all us kids played man hunt and kick the can into the hot summer nights. Everyone brought something over. We'd have homemade cookies and brownies, coffee cake, chips, candy.....all the good stuff! My father would set up the huge electric coffee pot that was usually only used on Thanksgiving and Christmas. All the neighbors congregated together. Adults on the porch drinking iced tea or hot coffee and all us kids playing in the neighborhood. She was a great neighbor, someone who cared. I cherish all the conversations we shared. Mary was really intelligent and so entertaining. I loved hearing her opinions and take on current events while sitting on her porch after she read the newspaper. It didn't mean she was reading that days newspaper though. She'd pile her newspapers up until she read every last one of them and caught up on her crossword puzzles. I really just enjoyed time spent with her. She was an honest woman and a great believer in Jesus. Mary loved her family very much, simply and genuinely loved. I sure hope there is a Gino's Italian Restaurant up in Heaven. I know Mr. Artie met her at the gates of Heaven. May her soul forever rest in peace and may all her family find comfort to know she is home. You all will meet again, not today, but you will one day. It is with such sadness that I cannot be with you all today. Please know you all, your whole huge tribe, are in my thoughts and in my prayers.
