Mary Beth Genter Obituary

On Friday, September 6th, 2024 Mary Beth (Mitchell) Genter of Downingtown, loving mother, daughter, sister and friend passed away after a short battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was surrounded in love, at home, with her family.

Mary Beth was born on December 4, 1950 in Coaldale Pennsylvania to Raymond and Aldona (Dirvornas) Mitchell. She was a 1968 graduate from Spring-Ford High School and went on to study Elementary Education at Kutztown University. She later completed her Masters in Education at Lehigh University. Throughout her life she had many roles as a school teacher, office manager, bookkeeper, healer, crafter and her favorite, Mother and Grandmother.

She is survived by her children, John R. Genter (Virginia) and Emily Wyatt (Gary) as well as her beloved grandchildren Jack and Everly, her sister Sylvia Hilborn, niece Debra Hilborn-Davis (Robert) and nephew Ralph Hilborn (Adrianna) as well as extended family and friends. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her daughter in law, Dallas and her children’s father, John M. Genter and her daughter Ann.

She loved spending time with family and friends. She would quickly work to share her energy with humans and animals in need. She was the ultimate Mom, never saying no to a night of babysitting, a ride to the airport or in their younger years, the movies, a concert or a sleepover. She was always welcoming friends (and animals) into her home with plenty of snacks and a warm smile.

She was an amazing crafter, with a true talent for quilting. She created many pieces for those she loved, and those that were missing their own loved ones. In recent years she enjoyed volunteering at Covenant teaching children how to sew during Vacation Bible School. She was never afraid to get her hands dirty, often in a vegetable garden or the kitchen. At Christmas, you were sure to get a plate of cookies lovingly baked and delivered.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday September 12th at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 400 Lancaster Avenue in Malvern at 11:00, with visitation prior starting at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Canine Partners for Life www.k94life.org
