Mary Anne Broomell, age 87, passed away Thursday, January 1st, 2026 at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She was born August 3rd, 1938 in West Chester, PA to the late William (Mel) Stafford & Florence Stafford.
Mary Anne worked for 25 years at Chester County Hospital as a switchboard operator where she was beloved by clients and colleagues for her vibrant personality. She enjoyed many hobbies including arts and crafts, and would create handmade ceramics and gifts to delight her friends and family. She loved playing games and spent many hours reading. Mary Anne had a passion for collecting Mickey Mouse memorabilia and regularly travelled to Disney World with her sons. Her loved ones knew her to be outgoing; A fun-loving person who was always happy to spend time with friends and family.
Mary Anne is preceded in death by her husband Bill Broomell, husband P. Norman Shirk and her many beloved brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons P. Norman Shirk Jr., Leonard Glenn Shirk; her sisters Doris Herman, Helen Wilmont, Elsie Hines, her grandchildren Kristin Shirk, Candace Shirk, and Magdelena Shirk, as well as her great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many cousins. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends whom she loved greatly and who will dearly miss her.
A memorial service will be held for Mary Anne to be announced at a later date, with a private family internment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chester County Food Bank to honor her memory.

She was a wonderful friend. I worked with her at CCH and was a friend of her’s for more than 20 years. We went to lunch and player Words with Friends. I miss her very much.
