Mary Alice Banks Dalton, age 89 of Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of Fancy Gap, Va. went to be with her Lord on January 14th, 2026 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Assisted Living in Virginia Beach, Va. Mrs. Dalton was born on June 3, 1936 in Carroll County, Virginia to the late William Posey Banks and Lilly Virginia Webb Banks. She was the widow of B. Clyde Dalton, Potentate of Khedive Shrine 1989 and President of the Mid-Atlantic Shrine Association in 2003. They were both graduates of Hillsville High School Class of 1952 and were married for 53 years. Mrs. Dalton attended Old Dominion University and graduated from the Institute of Financial Education. She was Vice President and Personnel/EEO Officer for Life Federal Savings Banks/ BB&T for 38 years at a time when few women were promoted to this level. She was so proud of this honor and the faith shown in her by officers Frank E. Schlegel, Sr., President and Chairman of the Board of Norfolk Federal Savings and Loan, and by William J. Fanney, President and Chairman of the Board of Life Saving Bank.
Mrs. Dalton was a past President of the Tidewater Personnel Association and past President of the Local Chapter #19 of the Institute of Financial Education. She later served as an instructor for Chapter #19 classes for many years which she enjoyed very much. She was also a member of SHRM.
She was an active member of Round Knob Baptist Church in Fancy Gap, Va. After their marriage, they moved to Virginia Beach and later became active members of the Memorial United Methodist Church, The United Methodist Women, The Dana and Marjorie Tyson Circle.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, B. Clyde Dalton, her mother Lilly Virginia Webb Banks and her father, William Posey Banks: brothers, Harry Blaine Banks, Chester Banks, William Early Banks, Tom Banks and Cassell Banks; sisters, Cosby Banks Horton, Oleta Virginia Banks Kieffer, Arlene Banks Meredith, Rubye Banks Marshall Webb, Hazel Banks Fariss and Jo Ann Banks Sechler.
She leaves memories to be cherished by her son, Philip Clyde Dalton and wife, Christine; grandson Christopher James Clyde Dalton (Sydney), granddaughter Meghan Auer Meek (Ethan); grandson Jamison Auer and many loving nieces and nephews.
The memorial services will be held at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on May 2nd, 2026 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Bobby Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Heath Banks Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the memorial services. Following the burial, light refreshments will be available at the Hale Wilkinson Carter Home at 405 North Main St. Hillsville, VA 24343 for those wishing to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heath Banks Cemetery at 950 Windy Ridge Road, Fancy Gap, VA 24328.
The family of Mrs. Dalton would like to thank her physician of many years, Dr. Howard Feldman; her dentist Dr. Harvey Shiflet and his staff; and the staff of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for her outstanding care in her later years.

I remember when Mary Alice and Clyde were in high school and were always together. They were a handsome couple. Mary Alice's younger sister JoAnn was a friend of mine and Mary Alice was so kind to her. Good memories!
