Mary A. Kubacki, age 92, of Ubly, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
She was born on May 19, 1933, in Perham, MN, the second of ten children of parents Fritz and Helen Van Erp. Mary was a proud graduate of Ubly Community Schools, Class of 1951.
She married Albert Kubacki on May 24, 1952, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan, MI. Together they farmed in Ubly until 1992 and raised their family with faith, hard work, and humor. Mary was an active member of the Farm Bureau and also worked for many years as a bookkeeper at the Michigan Livestock Exchange in Cass City.
A woman of deep faith, Mary was a lifelong parishioner of St. John Catholic Church (Good Shepherd Parish) in Ubly, where she was also a member of the Christian Mothers.
Mary and Al spent many winters in Holiday, FL, where she took up painting. She loved playing cards—competitive yet always gracious and quick to praise a hand well played—and she delighted in puzzles and never missed an episode of Jeopardy! Known for her quick wit and warmth, Mary could strike up a conversation with anyone and had a wonderful ability to laugh at herself.
Mary is survived by her children: Kevin Kubacki of Ubly; Gary Kubacki and his wife, Mandy, of Ubly; Cindy Kissell and her husband, Jay; Tim Kubacki and his wife, Debbie, of Sebewaing; Craig Kubacki and his wife, Alicia, of Bay City; Randy Kubacki and his wife, Carolyn; and son-in-law Andy Booms. She is also survived by seven grandchildren—Adam, Jason, Chloe, and Claire Kubacki; Colleen Loomis; Elizabeth Schantz; and Hannah Booms—as well as seven great-grandchildren. Mary is lovingly remembered by her sisters Florence (Norman) Briolat and Evelyn Schadd, sisters-in-law Kay Van Erp and Sue Van Erp, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, and her daughter, Dawn Booms; brothers Joe, Albert, Bill and Bob; sisters Marcella Campbell, Dorothy Schmidt and Agnes Zawilinski; in-laws W.J. Campbell, Walter Zawilinski, Bob Schmidt, Earl Schadd, Carol Van Erp, Ruth Ann Van Erp, Ervin and Virginia Maurer, Harry and Marcella Prazuch, Henry Kubacki, Ray and Anna Kubacki, Bernard and Delphine Kubacki, Anthony and Luella Piskorski, James and Agnes Lewis and Sylvia Kubacki.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 4th, 2025 at 10:30AM at St. John the Evangelist Church (Good Shepard Parish), with Fr. Kumar officiating. Burial will be at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Cemetery in Ubly.
Visitation is from 8:30 until the time of service at 10:30AM Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation or the Ubly Library/Senior Center.
